Betty Jean (Kropp) Biegert
July 14, 1930 - March 6, 2022
Betty Jean (Kropp) Biegert passed away peacefully and gently into the presence of her Lord on Sunday, March 6, 2022, in San Antonio, TX. She was 91. The last to remain of the family's eight children, she was born on July 14, 1930, on the 49 Ranch near the little town of Gail in Borden County, TX to parents William R. Kropp and Effie (Martin) Kropp. Betty graduated from Lamesa High School in Lamesa, TX in 1947. She married John W. Biegert on May 4, 1957, at Northside Assembly of God Church in San Antonio. Betty and John had been introduced to each other in October of 1956 by John’s cousin, Al Biegert. Betty worked with Al’s wife, Evelyn. The two couples continued a strong bond of friendship for their entire lives. John and Betty enjoyed traveling and, in their retirement, they visited with friends and family in many different locations while they drove to see the sights. If they knew they would be near enough to visit, they made sure to reach out! In 1965 she earned her BA in Elementary Education from Trinity University in San Antonio. She taught the second grade at Sunset Hills Elementary school (later renamed Colby Glass Elementary) in NISD from the mid 1960s to the late 1980s. Betty touched the lives of countless students and educators throughout her long teaching career. Many have commented that she not only taught them in school or church, but she also taught them how to teach as well. Betty served her church as a Sunday school teacher and director of Christian education for many years. She is the last remaining original member of Northwest Assembly of God (previously Oak Meadow Assembly of God), a church she helped plant in the early 1970s. Time spent with family was deeply treasured by Betty. She received great joy from the close relationships she nurtured with her daughter and two grandsons. She took great pride in their many accomplishments and enjoyed encouraging them in their endeavors. She considered her daughter to be her best friend, and she was incredibly proud of the outstanding young men that her grandsons grew to become. She loved to learn, laugh, teach, worship, pray . . . and did it with all her heart. Family and friends described her as beautiful, gentle, soft-spoken, present, and gracious. She will be deeply missed by her family and by countless friends who were blessed to know her. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband John, three sisters, and four brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Tina K. (Biegert) Pierce of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Basil “Trey” Pierce III (Jessica) of New Braunfels, TX and Wade Pierce of Ft. Stockton, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service celebrating Betty’s life will be held at 10:30am Tuesday April 26,2022 at First Assembly of God Church,13435 West Ave, San Antonio TX 78216.
