Betty Marie Graham
June 24, 1928 - May 7, 2022
Betty Marie (Adcock) Graham ended her long journey on this earth on May 7, 2022, at the age of 93 in her home in San Antonio. She lived a life full of love and compassion with a strong faith in God and a dogged determination to live life to the fullest. Her family was the crowning jewel of her life and she left a lasting legacy that will live on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her work ethic was second to none and it was manifested in her passions of family, home, gardening, and sewing. There was no dust in her house or idleness in her hands. She always made time for a hug, a prayer, a meal, a dose of wisdom, a loving gesture or even a gentle rebuke which earned her much respect, love and admiration from everyone she met. Her strong will to live caused her to accept any medical diagnosis with a question of how was it going to be fixed, never something she couldn’t overcome. It was amazing to see this tender, loving woman be so endearing to many, yet maintain an inner quality of grit tougher than shoe leather. Betty was born in Brownwood, Texas on June 24, 1928, to parents John and Eunice Adcock. She and her family of 7 grew up on a farm during the Depression and later WWII. Material things were hard to come by but all this formed the internal fortitude, along with her faith, to make her the strong woman she became. She graduated from Gustine High School where she met the love of her life, James Kenneth Graham, who she celebrated 30 years of marriage with until his death in 1976. She was a homemaker raising her 3 children until widowhood brought new challenges. She met them with resolve by entering the workforce managing retail sales and selling printing services. Retirement brought out a talent for sewing and quilting quickly became her specialty. To say she was good at it is an understatement. Every family member has a treasured quilt that she hand crafted specifically for them. This love for quilting and sewing led her to join Threads of Love, a volunteer group through Community Bible Church that supports premature babies at local hospitals. She thoroughly enjoyed her years with them and really beamed when they all called her “Mama Betty”. Surviving family members include son Kenneth (Phyllis) Graham, son David (Mary) Graham and daughter Janice Young of San Antonio and a sister Patsy Gregg of Burleson, Texas. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family would like to thank all the many doctors, nurses and staff who helped care for Betty as she coped with several physical issues that required much care in her later years. Special thanks to the staff at Vitas hospice. Their care for Betty was exceptional. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Threads of Love for Heaven's Sake at CBC at https://www.threadsoflovesatx.org A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on May 17th at 11:30AM at Community Bible Church, 2477 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232.
