Betty J. Kearney McGahey

Betty Jean Kearney McGahey, born in San Antonio, Texas on March 17, 1927, entered into eternal rest on February 19, 2022 at the age of 94. There, she was reunited with her husband of 53 years, Fred McGahey, who she met when she was a dance instructor for Earl Cobb Studios. They eloped to Boerne, Texas on March 26, 1947. From that day on, she became his “Betty Boop”, and they embarked on a lifetime of travel across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands and Africa. They celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary with a photo safari trip to the Mt. Kenya Safari Club in 1972. In 1997, they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary by renewing their wedding vows where their married life began in Boerne, Texas. Betty spent over 50 years as an employee of the City of San Antonio where she was employed as a Supervisor for the School Crossing Guards, often called the Mama Patrols. “Aunt Betty” is survived by her nieces, Darrylin Worthy Davis of Austin, Texas, and Rosemary Gladyne Worthy Dooley and husband, Dennis of Boerne, Texas; nephew, Stephen Worthy and wife, Leann of Shiner, Texas; great-nephew, Spencer Davis and wife, Ginger Florea of Fairfax, Virginia; great-niece, Marlana Tiner Nohrden and husband, Jim of Austin, Texas; great-great nephews, Matthew Nohrden, Ian Nohrden and Eric Nohrden; great-great niece, Annemarie Nohrden all of Austin, Texas; and great-great niece, Sandy Lemon and husband, Dean of Glendale, Arizona. Services will be held at the Fred J. Tips Mausoleum Chapel, Mission Burial Park Dominion, 20900 IH10 West, on St. Patrick’s Day, Thursday, March 17, 2022, on what would have been her 95th birthday. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. The Holy Rosary, led by family members, will be recited at 1:30 P.M. Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 P.M. Pallbearers will be Spencer Davis, Jim Nohrden, Matthew Nohrden, Ian Nohrden and Eric Nohrden. Betty was an avid dog lover, and memorial donations may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The family would like to thank the staffs of Juniper Village Lincoln Heights and Brookdale Nacogdoches Memory Care for their patience and loving care during her final years, and also, Anne Zbinden and Brian Marchiori, who became extensions of our family whenever needed.
