    Delia G. Gonzalez

    October 29, 1935 - February 14, 2022

Delia G. Gonzalez was born in San Antonio, Texas at the Nix Hospital in October of 1935 and left this life on February 14, 2022. She is survived by her daughter, Monica R. Gonzalez, her son, Cesar R. Gonzalez and son-in-law, James Besta, her sister, Herlinda Gutierrez, her niece, Laura Melissa Fragozo, her great-niece, Felicia Fragozo, and her great-nephews, Thomas Fragozo and Gabriel Fragozo. She is predeceased by her husband, Ceasar Gonzalez with whom she shared 40 years together, her parents Ruben and Juanita Gutierrez, her sister, Julietta Garcia, and her niece, Renee Peterson. Delia was a woman who, in many ways, was a nonconformist in life. She began working at Joske’s as a teenager and after graduating from Fox Tech high school, immediately began working for the Federal Government’s Defense Mapping Agency as a cartographer. This was practically unheard of in the late 1950’s when women were expected to find a husband, marry, and have children, not pursue a career. By this time, she had already met her husband-to-be and encouraged him, upon leaving the Navy, to apply for a job where she was working. He did and they both worked there until they retired after serving our country for 25 years. Delia worked full-time, raised a family, and helped to take care of her mother at a time when women were berated for trying to have it all. She did have it all and she did it all well. Delia loved her jewelry, handbags and earrings. She always seemed to be able to find the perfect card for her family and friends for whatever occasion might have arisen. Delia also loved her family, friends, Dr. Pepper, and fried chicken...but maybe not in that order. Delia was a huge powerhouse packed into a tiny body. Dementia may have stripped her of her ability to finish life at its fullest, but she never stopped being a firecracker. She will be forever missed and forever in our hearts. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Alamo Funeral Chapels. Graveside services and interment will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
