James Robert Newbold
January 31, 1947 - February 6, 2022
After recently learning that he had pancreatic cancer, James (Jim) Newbold passed away at the age of seventy-five at his home in Garden Ridge, Texas, with family by his side. Jim retired as a Senior Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force after 26 years of dedicated service to his country. Following his Air Force career, Jim devoted much of his time to local Lions Clubs starting in 1988 through the day he took his last breath. There is nothing he was not working on for the club every week of the year. As such he received the Lion of the Year award in 1991, Melvin Jones Fellowship 2006, District Governor’s Appreciation Award 2007, Secretary’s Excellence Award 2009, International President’s Commendation 2009, and The Harry Reasonover Award 2018. He had many other affiliations and service activities throughout his “retirement” including being a Shriner, performing free tax preparation for seniors through AARP, hearing screening for children, member of the GRCPAAA and Garden Ridge Parks Committee, plus many others too numerous to list. Jim truly lived to serve others. Jim was a man of Faith who generously loved his family and cared deeply for many, especially his fellow Lions. His love and joy for life was appreciated by all who came to know him. Jim is survived by his wife Starlett, his daughter Michelle and her husband Marty; his son Michael; a total of six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Jim was loved inside and outside the community, and will be missed by all.
