    Jimmy 'Jim' Dare Avenell

    September 7, 1947 - December 14, 2021

    Jimmy 'Jim' Dare Avenell passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 in San Antonio, TX. Jim was born on September 7th, 1947 in Des Moines, IA to Alvin 'Bill' and Joyce (Renfro) Avenell. Jim is survived by his son James Avenell and wife Misty Valdez Avenell; daughter Kathryn Avenell; grandson Chase Rice; brother Tim Avenell; nieces Michele Hernandez Balero, Roxanne Avenell, Evevon Avenell; brother Dale Berman; nieces Tricia Arehart, Lisa Johnson, and mother of his children, Susan Ring Avenell. Jim was preceded in death by his mother Joyce Renfro Avenell; father Alvin ‘Bill’ Avenell, wife Marjorie Avenell; and sister in law Pauline Avenell. Jim is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He honorably served in the United States Army as an Inter Speed Radio Operator. For his service he earned the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Jim was a brilliant man, a complicated man and at the same time a simple man. He was self-taught in many fields and was quick to teach you how to do something the right way. He had a life-long love affair with cars, specifically Volvos. Most of his spare time was spent working on cars, talking about cars and calculating the correct rim and tires for your car to get the best fuel mileage. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT LOCATION HAS CHANGED FOR TUESDAY JANUARY 11,2022 TO MISSION PARK FUNERAL CHAPELS MEDICAL CENTER 8332 FREDERICKSBURG ROAD. Visitation will begin at 5:30 P.M. on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 followed by a Service at 7 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels Medical Center 8332 Fredericksburg Road. The Graveside Service with Military Honors will begin at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road.
