    Joe V. Martinez

    August 12, 1924 - February 1, 2022

    Joe Vasquez Martinez entered eternal rest on February 1, 2022, at the age of 97. He was born on August 12, 1924 in San Antonio, Texas to Dionicio and Anita (Vasquez) Martinez, and was one of ten brothers and sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents, 8 brothers and sisters, and oldest daughter, Maria Lupe Martinez. Joe is survived by his wife of 25 years, Elvira Lupercio San Miguel; daughters from his first marriage with Consuelo Perez Martinez--Irma Martinez (Navy Veteran) and Blanca Estela Pilon; brother, Heriberto "Edddie" Martinez (Air Force Veteran); and other loving family members and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 5:30 p.m. 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited by niece Delia Tobias at 6:15 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Masks are required. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 8:45 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. Interment with military honors to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. Joe was a WWII Navy veteran and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9186 and the American Legion JFK Post 485. Five brothers served our country--four during WWII and one during the Korean War.
