A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Lupita C. Alvarez joined the Lord on January 11, 2022, at the age of 72. She was born on June 21, 1949 in San Antonio, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gilberto and Isabel Canales, and brother, Gilbert Canales. Lupita is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Joe Alvarez; 3 sons, Miguel Alvarez (Nazanin), Marcos Alvarez and Martin Alvarez (Celeste Parra); brother, Arturo Canales (Oralia); 6 grandchildren, Esteban, Cristian, Julian, Amélie, Madeleine and Mina Inés, numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members and friends. She was devoted in her faith to God and the church. She served for many years as a CCD teacher for St. Joan of Arc church, teaching the Catholic faith to children of all ages. She worked for 2 years for the Veterans Administration and 32 years for the Small Business Administration. After retiring, she traveled the world, built a house, volunteered at the North Central Veterans Administration, and became an auxiliary member with the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Her biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and working in her garden. She was a parishioner at St. Joselito Church at the time of her passing. She valued respectfulness, forgiveness, education, and family and was an amazing listener, offering comfort to many. She exemplified strength in battling cancer for six years. She will be missed by many, but the love she gave will never be forgotten. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral Service will be on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at Mission Park South. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10:15 a.m.
