Manuel C. Barrera, Jr. went to be with the Lord on January 11, 2022 at the age of 79. He was born on September 8, 1942 in Elmendorf, Texas to Manuel V. Barrera and Juanita Casias Barrera. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Carolina Moreno and Janie Martinez, and brother Simon C. Barrera. Manuel is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Guadalupe G. Barrera; daughters Rosemary Barrera, Gloria Barrera and Camelia Barrera (Flannel); sons Raul Maldonado, Jesse Maldonado (Irma) and Tony Maldonado (Barbara); sister Irene Gaitan (Trini) and brothers Tony Barrera, Frank Barrera (Valda) and Paul Barrera (Theresa). Manuel C. Barrera served in the Military the Army from June 2, 1961 till May 5, 1964. While in the Army, he was a SP4 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and Expert Rifle medal on the M14. Manuel retired from the Civil Service as a GS13 after 20 years of service. Manuel also fostered for 22 years and was the Vice President of the Association, during his fostering he adopted 3 daughters. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with a procession to depart the funeral home at 8:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
