Margaret Herrera Garcia, 100, a lifelong resident of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 20, 2022. She was born to Eduardo Herrera and Angelina Guerra on December 24, 1921, in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from the Ursuline Academy, Santa Rosa Nursing School, and made her career as a Registered Nurse. In later years, she was a farmer and rancher in the Rio Grande Valley working with her husband and son. She was a loving caregiver to her grandsons, and an avid craft artist, creating beautiful works of crochet and sequined décor that she shared with family and special friends. She also loved to hunt, fish, camp out, and travel. She prepared delicious meals and baked goods with love. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest G. Garcia, and brother, Ben Hays. She is survived by her son, William R. Ward, Jr. (Rose Marie) of Austin, Texas, and four grandsons, William S. Ward of Milford, Ohio; Alexander J. Ward, Richard A. Ward, and Christopher C. Ward, all of Austin, Texas. She also leaves behind multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, close friends and their children and grandchildren. Visitation will be at Mission Park Funeral Home at 3401 Cherry Ridge, San Antonio, Texas 78230 on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at 6:00 pm, with a rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Monday, April 25, 2022, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church at 700 Dewhurst Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78213 with interment at Fort Sam Houston following at 11:30 am, with a reception following at St. Gregory. The family would like to thank VITAS healthcare for excellent, compassionate hospice care in her final weeks. If desired, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in her memory.
