September 6, 1928 - September 8, 2021
Norris Eland Henley went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. Norris' life made a difference. Norris was born in San Antonio to Ona and Linda Henley on September 6, 1928. He was the oldest of four brothers, one of which was his identical twin. Norris was married to his “bride”, Mary on November 22, 1951 and began a journey of faith, family, and joyful fellowship that would last more than 65 years. He was father to six, grandfather to nine, and great grandfather to ten. Norris proudly served our country as a member of the Army National Guard and he worked for 20 years in the San Antonio Fire Department, earning rank of Engineer. He was one of the first in the Fire department to be trained as a first responder who cared for the injured and ill. After retiring from the fire department, he began his own real estate business, N.E. Henley Realty, and working in property management. He also was employed by Northside School District as a tax assessor. Woven through of all his life experiences was the joy in what the Lord had done for him and how he could share that with others. His passion for missions and serving the Lord sent him on multiple mission trips to Arizona, and made sure that his family was actively involved in ministry and activities, first at South San Antonio Baptist Church, University Park Baptist Church, and later, First Baptist Church of Helotes. He served as a faithful deacon in Helotes First Baptist. He also assisted in multiple expansion projects the ministries offered by the church to the Helotes community. He served in the Missions Committee at San Antonio Baptist Association helping to identify properties for new church plants, one of which was Crossroads Baptist Church. The Henley children love to laugh and reminisce about fun family vacations, time spent with extended family and growing up with parents who encouraged individuality. In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to the San Antonio Baptist Association Missions to assist with church planting.
