Pauline C. Tobias

July 19, 1944 - October 23, 2021

Our loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Pauline C. Tobias went to be with the Lord on October 23, 2021, at the age of 77. She was born on July 19, 1944 in San Antonio, TX Pauline is preceded in death by her husband, Eluterio V. “Toby” Tobias; parents, Candelario and Juanita Castillo; sisters, Frances Nerio and Amelia Salazar and brother, Ramon Castillo. Pauline is survived by her loving daughters, Jo Ann Tobias-Molina (Robert), Rose Ann San Martin (Pablo) and Dee Ann Sandoval (Victor); sister, Emma R. House; 12 grandchildren, Dominique R. Bernal, Nicholas Bernal, Nicole San Martin (Carlos), Desiree San Martin, Danielle Vigil (Michael), Matthew San Martin, Robin Sandoval, Ryan Sandoval, Jacob Sandoval, Dylan Sandoval, Cassidy Sandoval and Erin Sandoval; 6 great-grandchildren, Maddie Ramirez, Sofia Ramirez, Michael Vigil Jr. Liliandra Vigil, Lacey Sandoval-Huizar, Ivy Rose San Martin Huerta, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In her early years, Pauline trained for a career in cosmetology and remained a lifelong enthusiast. She enjoyed trying new styles and colors and encouraged her girls to do the same. She wanted everyone to look their best - always! As a young mother she was a homemaker and very active in the girls’ activities. As the girls grew, she went back to work and made many lifelong friends at each of her stops, including the Levi Strauss company along with her husband. She was widowed in 1993 at the age of 48 and thus began a new chapter in her life. She trained for a career as an activity director and was well suited for the work as she loved arts & crafts, dancing and caring for others. Her love of life and adventure took her to many sights during her lifetime. Her favorites were Disneyland, New York and trips to the coast with family. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and she never failed to fill people in on everything they were doing in their lives and careers. Whatever her grandchildren were doing, Pauline would be in the front row cheering them on. She also loved her Yorkshire Terrier Chico, her companion for 16 years who preceded her earlier this year. She loved mail order catalog shopping and keeping in touch with old friends and making new friends on FaceBook. She was a devout Catholic and devoted to the Blessed Mother. She made weekly visits to St. Jude’s to light her devotional candles and several pilgrimages to the valley to the Shire of Virgen de San Juan. Her humor, advice and support will be missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. for a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church on Friday, November 5, 2021. Interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery 2.
