July 22, 1938 - March 25, 2022
Refugio “Cuco” Rodriguez, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all, went to be with Our Lord on March 25, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas at the blessed age of 83. He was born on July 22, 1938 in Del Rio, Texas to Felix and Natividad Rodriguez. He has reunited with his son, Gerardo H. Rodriguez, his parents, and siblings: Arturo Rodriguez, Felix Rodriguez Jr., Estela Roman, and Juan Antonio Rodriguez. Left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife of 62 years Carmen S. Rodriguez; daughter, Lydia Rodriguez Reyes (Luis); grandchildren, Heather Meri Rodriguez, Alessandra Reyes, and Amarissa Reyes; great-grandchildren Rayna Copeland and Leo Lorenzo Ruiz; and brother, Romulo “Tite” Rodriguez, and many nieces and nephews. Cuco graduated from San Felipe High School in 1957 and enjoyed attending his class reunions. In 1960 he moved his family to San Jose, CA and obtained employment at Montgomery Ward in the tire shop. He also became a volunteer fireman for the San Jose Fire Department. After 10 years, he moved his family back to Texas. With the encouragement and support of family, he became a Master Plumber and started his own business. Everyone who knew Cuco was aware that he was a very detail-oriented person, dedicated to his profession, and always provided exceptional quality work and customer service. During summer breaks from school, he often hired his nephews and neighborhood teens to work with him and learn the plumbing trade. Cuco shared guidance and always encouraged young people to excel in school, achieve their educational goals, and value the importance of a high work ethic, independence, and success. He would say, “Be punctual, dependable, and responsible. Always take care of your job.” He also enjoyed family gatherings, holiday celebrations and dances, conjunto music, fishing, playing dominoes, and watching westerns such as Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and Wagon Train. We also remember his sense of humor and willingness to help others. He will be dearly missed by family, friends, and neighbors. Visitation will be on Monday, April 4, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. A funeral mass will be on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Mission San Jose Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park South.
