November 29, 1936 - November 5, 2021
Shirley Ann Witten, 3 weeks short of 85 years old, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 5, 2021, in Carrollton, Texas. She was born on November 29, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas to Joe and Ruth Ann Howard. Shirley was raised in Kirby, Texas – a suburb of San Antonio and had the privilege of raising her children in the same home she grew up in. She was very proud of that and loved her homestead. Although Shirley did a lot of things in her life, from a Swimming Instructor to Daycare Teacher, the most treasured work she accomplished was that of a proud “Homemaker”. She loved taking care of her family with all her heart. She was a Godly woman who raised her children to love Jesus. She loved to sow into the kingdom of God and enjoyed giving of herself to anyone in need. She lived life with a purpose to serve others whenever and wherever she could, even to the very end of her life. She lived for her children and in fact was often heard saying that she never wanted to be anything else than a mom. That journey started in 1956 with the birth of her first child, Mike. Mike was followed by 3 sisters, Jeri Lynn, Cynthia Ruth, and Kimberly Jo. She was a fabulous and fun mom always making sure that her home was filled with a lot of love and tons of laughter, jokes and pranks, and lots of memories. In 1963, she married her best friend, Bob Witten, and was married to him for 38 years until he went to be with the Lord in 2001. Shirley Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert H. Witten; her son, Michael E. McAteer; and her brothers, Joe Howard, and Robert Howard. Shirley Ann is survived by her 3 daughters: Jeri Brown and her husband Patrick; Cindy Cardwell, and her husband, Bob; and Kim Holmes, and her husband, Randy. Her beloved grandchildren (whom she loved so very much): Mike, Randy, Joey, Elijah, Amy, Joanna, Chris, Michelle, Greg, Jennie, Josh, Mary, Jessica, Kristin, Johnny, Jason, Shelby, Josh, Sean; as well as 24 great grandchildren. She considered all of these grandchildren as jewels in her crown, and they certainly are. Shirley Ann Witten will be profoundly missed by all who knew her, and by anyone blessed to have been her friend. She always said, “to have friends, you have to make yourself friendly”, and that she did. Visitation will be Friday, November 12, 2021 from 10:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a service to be recited at 11:00 a.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park South.
