Verlene Garcia Moore

June 24, 1930 - February 8, 2022

A loving mother, grandmother, aunt, partner and friend, Verlene G. Moore went to be with the Lord on February 8, 2022 at the age of 91, in San Antonio, TX. She was born on June 24, 1930 in Gonzales, TX. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Norris Moore; parents, Jesus and Malvenor Garcia; brother, James Vernon Garcia; sisters, Helen Hicks and Beatrice Garcia; daughter, Bertha Moore. Verlene is survived by her loving life partner, Victor Palmore; daughters, Opal Charles of San Antonio, TX and Beatrice Moore Luchin (Adrian), of Houston, TX; 5 grandchildren, La Macia Moore, Jennifer Rieras, Dennis Harris Jr. Leigh Hill, and Curtis Harris; 2 great-grandchildren, Jazlyn Parks and Phoenix Harris; nieces and nephew, Regina Garcia, Georgia Garcia and Lee Garcia, and other extended family members and a host of friends. Verlene devoted her life to serving others. She was an active member of Second Baptist Church for over 50 years and served in several leadership positions. She was also a beloved elementary reading teacher whose career spanned over 40 years in the San Antonio Independent School District. Verlene was an active lifetime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for over 70 years and held several offices in the Alpha Tau Omega Chapter. She was also a lifetime member of the NAACP and a past member of The Eastside Boys and Girls Club Advisory Board. Numerous awards and certificates were awarded to her for her volunteerism and community service over the decades and although she will be missed, her legacy of service will live on. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service to begin at 6:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral Service will be on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church. Interment to follow at Meadowlawn Memorial Park.
