With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Arturo Silviano Bustos, Jr., affectionately known as “Papa,” who peacefully departed this life on February 17, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by his beloved wife and children. He is preceded in death by his mother Juliana and father Arturo. Born on May 1, 1935, in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, México, to Arturo Silviano Bustos, Sr. and Juliana Martínez, Art’s life was one of determination, love, and unwavering commitment to his family. He received his education on both sides of the border, attending Escuela Primaria Cuauhtémoc in Nuevo Laredo and San Augustine Catholic School in Laredo, Texas. A Life of Passion and Hard Work From an early age, Art displayed a strong entrepreneurial spirit. At just 10 years old, he began selling newspapers in Nuevo Laredo, crossing the border to Laredo, Texas, to turn a profit. His ambition and work ethic set the foundation for a lifetime of success. Art was also a gifted baseball player, competing in the amateur leagues in Nuevo Laredo, the Spanish-American League, and other minor leagues in San Antonio. He tried out for the Cleveland Indians but made the selfless decision to prioritize his growing family over a professional baseball career. He often shared that God gave him a choice between playing professional baseball or building a family, and without hesitation, he chose family. A Legacy of Dedication and Success Art found his calling in the auto body industry, starting as an auto painter before working his way up to foreman at General Oldsmobile Auto Dealer in San Antonio. But he had bigger dreams. On April 21, 1980, alongside his devoted wife, Frances, Art took a leap of faith and opened his own collision repair business, Art’s Paint & Body Shop, which became a well-respected and successful establishment. His famous slogan, “You Bend ’em, We Fix ’em!” was known throughout the community. Even after retiring in 2003, Art kept an office at the shop, proudly displaying a sign that read: “I’m retired... but I work part-time as a pain in the BUTT!” A Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather Above all else, Art’s greatest joy and legacy was his family. He shared 72 beautiful years of marriage with his loving wife, Frances. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. He is survived by: • His five children: John, Belinda, Evangelina, Elizabeth, and Javier • Two devoted daughters-in-law: Irene and Cathy • One cherished son-in-law: Mario Enrique Flores • Eleven grandchildren: Rhiana (spouse Kevin), Janelle, Renée (spouse Ian), Steve Jr. (spouse Emily), Jeremy (spouse Alysha), Jackie (spouse Matt), Giraldo, A.J. (spouse Mari), John Michael (spouse Kristal), Amanda (spouse Tanner), and Matthew • Twelve great-grandchildren: Audrey, Jaxson, Phoenix, Stevie III, Arnold, Ariya, Olyvia, Penny, Cash, Mila, Margot, and Mia • His brother, Raymond Estrada, Sr. • And other numerous nieces and nephews Art was deeply grateful for his family’s love, understanding, and support throughout his life. His wisdom, strength, and humor will live on in the hearts of those he touched. Forever in Our Hearts Arturo Silviano Bustos, Jr. was a man of integrity, dedication, and love. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, hard work, and devotion to family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the stories, memories, and lessons he shared.
