Dona Holmes Pitman, age 80, of San Antonio, passed away on September 2, 2024. Dona was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who made it a life mission to be friends with every person she met. She had a heart full of love and hope to give. She was an avid traveler, decorator, cook and so many more things. She was brilliant, thoughtful, loyal, quick witted, and had a way of always keeping her head held high regardless of the circumstances. Her laugh was unmatched and will still echo in our hearts forever. Born in Tucson, Arizona she spent her first 11 years there before moving to San Antonio, Texas. Dona graduated from The Keystone School in 1962. Dona went on to further her education at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. She was very involved in the San Antonio Symphony League as well as the Opera. She was also a docent at the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio. In Puerto Vallarta she was a diverse philanthropist in her time donating and contributing to many charities such as the SPCA-PV, Casa Esperanza Women’s Shelter, and many more. She had a deep love and passion for the arts, helping others, and always shared that with anyone who would listen. After living in San Antonio for 35 years she decided that her true home was in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where she had vacationed many time before. She purchased a home there and officially moved down there full time in the 1990’s. During her time in Puerto Vallarta she built beautiful friendships, many lasting decades. Over the years we began to reference these people as her “PV Familia” and we are truly grateful for that community. Dona was predeceased by her parents, Estelle Yates Holmes and Thomas Worthy Holmes, as well as her brother W.T. Holmes, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Allison Pitman (Michael Davila); her grandchildren, Yates Pfeiffer & Isabel Hutt (Christian Palmer); her sister Tommy Kepner & brother-in-law C. Greg Kepner; niece and nephew Melinda Ziegler (John) and Ed Kepner (Lisa); her “bonus grandbabies” Louis Davila and Elliott Davila and numerous cousins. Her family deeply appreciates her faithful caregiver in Puerto Vallarta Blanca Angelica Arce. In celebrating her life, we honor the memory of a remarkable woman who brought joy, laughter, friendship, comfort and so much more to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Services will be Monday September 23, 2024 at Mission Park Domain in San Antonio, Texas at 2 p.m.
