Tributes

J. C. Cooley peacefully passed into the arms of his Lord on January 14, 2010, at the age of 87. J.C. was a member of The Greatest Generation and proudly served in World War II in the 63rd Infantry Division, 255th Infantry Regiment, of the 7th Army. He earned two Bronze Stars for bravery in combat at the Battle of the Bulge as well as numerous other medals. J. C. was born October 17, 1922, in Parsons, Kansas to William Wesley Cooley and Era Brickey Cooley. J. C. is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elouise Cotton Cooley; sons Chris Cooley and wife Debbie, Craig Cooley and wife Diana; beloved grandchildren Randy Cooley and wife Megan, Christopher Cooley and wife Elizabeth, Jennifer Cooley Peace and husband Tyler, and Katy Cooley; great grandchildren Noah and Hank Cooley, and expected soon great granddaughter Abby Marie Peace; sister-in-law Patsy Yantis and husband John, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also, longtime companions Maria Vasquez and Becky. Pallbearers at the funeral will be family members: Randy and Christopher Cooley, Mike and Tom Yantis, Tyler Peace, and Hank Austin. J.C. was a member of Anchor Masonic Lodge #424 for more than 60 years and a charter member of Helotes Lodge #1429, Knights Templar #7, Royal Arch Masons #381, R. S. and M. #14, Adah Chapter #49, and Alzafar Shrine. He was also a member of Hermann Sons, Helotes Chapter. J. C. was a graduate of Texas A&M class of '46, and was a Life Member of the Former Students Association of Texas A&M and the San Antonio A&M Club. He was involved in banking and real estate for many years. He also owned the San Antonio Spice Company and worked for the betterment of many surrounding counties when he worked for AACOG later in his career. J.C. was always there to lend a helping hand to his fellow man and cheered everyone he met with his hearty laughter and infectious smile.
