Maria (also known as “Marie”) was born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, and was raised and began a family in San Antonio, Texas. She also shared life with her sister and daughter in San Diego, CA. Marie passed away on August 22, 2023, and is survived by her sole daughter, Jacqueline Monique Valdes, and her dear brothers and sisters, brother-in-law Gilberto Iruegas, sister-in-law Rebecca Valdez, Victor and wife Cindy, Maria Teresa, Manuel and wife Esmeralda, Juan Carlos and wife Arwen, Martin Alonso and wife Linda, and Santiago Valdez. She is resting in peace with her beloved mother and father, Victor Ortiz Valdez and Maria del Rosario Valdez de Valero, sister Raquel Iruegas, and brother Alejandro Valdez. She is also survived by many beautiful nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren. Marie was a joyous and beautiful mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. Her spiritual beauty and radiance lit up any room she entered, and she will live in the hearts of many family, friends, and people who were touched by her kindness and vitality. After being promoted several grades in high school, Marie graduated at age 15 and was offered a scholarship to a private catholic university in San Antonio, Texas. She had been interested in the helping professions, and with her entrepreneurial spirit, she turned towards an education as a cosmetologist and esthetician. Marie always celebrated the inner beauty of others, and loved to make people look and feel their best. As a business owner, Marie owned and operated several salons, along with an art gallery in downtown San Antonio during the 1990s. She continued her mission to help others professionally in life, and received a certificate as a Certified Community Health Worker from Southwestern College in Chula Vista, CA. Marie was blessed in raising her daughter Jacqueline with the help of her entire, kindhearted family. The Valdez and Iruegas families were always there to help both her and Jacqueline throughout each step of their lives, and now her siblings and their families are providing a beautiful crossing for her final passage. Marie also shared her love with cherished pets, including her emotional support dog, Yang, whom she had for 17 years. She is also survived by her two adored chihuahuas, Chubbs and Topo Gigio. SERVICES Visitation will be held on Friday, September 1st, 2023, at 11am for family, and at 12pm for all friends. The Holy Rosary service will be held from 1:00pm-1:30pm, followed by loving words from family from 1:30pm-2:00pm.
