Maurene Morris Stanton was born October 19, 1928, in San Antonio, Texas to Ms. Willie P. Morris and Mr. Charles N. Morris Sr. She left this earth to meet her Creator on May 2, 2024 at age 95. Maurene grew up on the south side of San Antonio and attended San Antonio ISD schools to include Edgar Allan Poe Junior High School, and George W. Brackenridge High School where she was a member of the Purple Jacket drill team. After high school, she attended San Antonio College where she met and later married C.B. “Bart” Stanton. They remained married for 63 years until the time of his death in 2011. Being a very detailed and precise person, Maurene first went to work as a secretary in the law firm of George, Thrifton and Cockrell. However, she soon started her career as a secretary for the United States Air Force Security Service Wing at Kelly Air Force Base where she remained for many years. She retired from this position in 1991 with high praise from those who worked with her. After retirement, Maurene spent most of her time caring for her home and family and being active in her church. She spent many hours with her grandchildren which brought her great delight. She was an accomplished seamstress, a piano and organ player, and a reader of romance and mystery novels. Maurene is predeceased by her parents, two brothers, C.N. Morris Jr. and Jim A. Morris, and her husband, Bart. She is survived by children Carol Sue Coward (Bob), William B. Stanton (Sheryl); grandchildren, Christine Anderson, Bart Dupont (Michelle), Cody Stanton (Kerith), and Caitlin Sears (Eric); great grandchildren, Blake Dupont (Chrissy), Cade Dupont, Taylor Anderson, Sarah Dupont, Harper Stanton and Landry Sears. Nan, as Maurene was affectionately known by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and many loving friends will be remembered for her gentle spirit, always having a kind, sweet word for everyone. She loved her family, friends, her church and her Lord. She will be missed. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 3:30 pm at Oak Hills Presbyterian Church, 6739 Callaghan Road, San Antonio, Texas. Pastor Rachael Huntley presiding. Arrangements through Mission Burial Park North. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Hills Presbyterian Church.
