Tributes

Alexander (“Alex”) Pych was called home to Our Lord on Saturday evening October, 22, 2016. A devoted and joyful husband and father, Alex is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Marie Pych, his son Rick Pych, grandson Zack Pych, and sister Genevieve (“Ginger”) Pych Pazda. He is preceded in death by his remaining siblings, sister Helen (Pych) Serignese, and brothers Joseph, Frank, John, Steve and Stanley Pych. Alex Pych was blessed with a full life of 94 years, born May 27, 1922 to the late Adam and Mary (Pruchnick) Pych. The Pych family worked a tenant farm in South Windsor, CT, later moving to Hartford CT, where Alex grew up. Alex enjoyed local fame as an athlete in his youth playing in semi-professional football and baseball leagues. He also was a sparring partner for Willie Pep, who went on to hold the World Featherweight boxing championship twice between the years of 1947 and 1950. As a young teen during the Great Depression, Alex signed on with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), part of President Roosevelt’s New Deal. Alex always felt that his work with the CCC Camp in Montana and Wyoming was a tremendous life experience for a young man. It served as the foundation for his work ethic and manual skills, evident in the fact that over his lifetime he pretty much single handedly built three homes for his family. Throughout his life he was always busy with various projects, which lead to his favorite saying “Grass doesn’t grow on Main Street.” Alex Pych is a WWII veteran, and was particularly proud of his service as a U.S. Navy Seaman aboard the TADCEN Shoemaker California, SS Richard Olney, USAT Explorer, and the USS Rigel destroyer in the American, Asiatic Pacific, and European Theatres from 1942 - 1946. After the war, he lived in Hartford, CT, working 38 years for the Taylor & Fenn Company foundry in Windsor, CT where he was the foundry superintendent in his later career there. Alex and Marie spent 26 years in retirement in Hobe Sound, FL, where Alex continued to work at Jupiter Hills Country Club, enjoying the opportunities it gave him to meet many celebrities and persons of notoriety over the years. In 2010, Alex and Marie moved to San Antonio to be near their son Rick. SERVICES Visitation will begin on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 20523 Huebner Road, San Antonio, Texas 78258 at 9:00 A.M. immediately followed by a Requiem Mass at 10:00 A.M. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will follow at 11:30 A.M. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road.
