Alfred P. Castillo Fred, born January 8, 1931 went to be with our Lord on September 17, 2014 at 9:50am. He is preceded in death by his wife Julia, parents Juan and Feliz Castillo, his two sisters Patsy Rodriguez, Janie Rubalcaba and great grandchild Daniel A. Badillo. Mr. Castillo is survived by his children Diane Guerra Rene, Stella Farias Jesse, Norma Moreno Nick; Johnny Castillo Gaby, Robert Castillo Raquel, George Castillo Martha, Ernest Castillo, 28 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; sister Maria Reyes Rocha; brother Alex Castillo, and long time employee Nacho. After losing his father at the age of nine, Fred was only able to complete the 6th grade at Fleming Elementary, now known as Athens. He worked in fields as a migrant worker alongside his mother for at least thirteen years. He married the love of his life, Julia, and was devoted to her and their seven children. In 1955, he started his first job as a butcher at Sam's Meat Market. For the next 29 years he worked at various meat markets in the San Antonio area. On March 19, 1984, Fred, with the help of his brother Alex, decided to start his own business known as Fred's Meat Market. Fred made Fred's Meat Market a friendly, enjoyable and vibrant store to shop at. In those 29 years of dedicated service to the community, Fred built many friendships with loyal customers. His laughter, hospitality, and generosity made his customers feel Welcomed. Through those years, he had the opportunity to meet so many people who also brought laughter into his life. What will his patrons remember the most? How about Fred's salsa, homemade chorizo, barbacoa, and his undeniably delicious ham and cheese sandwiches all prepared by Fred himself. Fred dedicated 58 years of his life as a butcher, 29 of those years self-employed and catering to his beloved community. Fred is finally at peace, eternally reunited with Julia, and home with our Lord. "See you when I see You..." The family of Fred Castillo would like to take this opportunity to thank the people and businesses of the Community for their years of continuous support, friendship and shared memories. Visitation will begin on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. with a rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with a procession from the funeral home.
