Alice H. Puente, age 95, born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at home, surrounded by her family. She lived a life marked by compassion, strength, faith and a deep devotion to her family. She was born March 4, 1931, a daughter of the late Serafin and Gabriela Hernandez. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Joe A. Puente; daughter, Rosalinda Zapata; son-in-law, John Holstun; three brothers, Benny, Serafin, Jr., and Edward; three sisters, Dora, Beatrice and Virgie. She is survived by her children, Joe Puente, Jr. (Margaret “Jody”); Mary Holstun and Abel Puente. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Eric Puente (Kristel); Monica Shamdas (Henry); Jeremiah Holstun (Christina); Jacob Zapata (Annette); Nicholas Zapata (Monica); Tessa Carrillo (Jacob); Michael Gonzales (Marcy); Justin Puente and Emanuel Puente. Alice is also survived by her sister, Hortense Villarreal; brother-in-law, Efren Cavazos; son-in-law, Paul Zapata (Carol); great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. So much to say about Alice. She was known for her delicious cooking which included her “generic” potato salad, where she only added hard boiled eggs and Miracle Whip. She also made the best Red Macaroni and Cheese and always was happy to make her “Stars” when her grandchildren asked. Her rice was perfect every time and was delicious! She was a fashionista and her outfit had to match and before she even combed her hair in the morning, she put on her earrings! Alice loved to dress fancy and was known to wear high heels whenever she went out, even to the grocery store at the request of her husband. There is way too much to share of the impact Alice made in everyone’s life, but the most lasting legacy she left was that she was a fierce Prayer Warrior! She only had to meet you once and you were already on her prayer list. Her countless prayers have kept her loved ones safe and sound. We can never repay her for her many blessings. Alice touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her selflessness, warmth and generous spirit will be remembered forever. The family finds comfort in knowing she has been reunited with her loved ones in Heaven and is now at peace in the presence of the Lord. The family extends heartfelt thanks to family and friends who supported her during her illness, especially the exceptional staff at Embrace Hospice and VIP Providers, who gave her the best care. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life to honor Alice H. Puente. A Visitation will be held from 10:30 am to 11:30 am on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, with a 11:30 am Chapel Service at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Dr., San Antonio, Texas. A procession will follow to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, Texas. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths”.
