Allan Ray Smith entered into rest Monday, January 15, 2007, at the age of 76. Born in Ingleside, TX, he resided in San Antonio most of his life. He was a 1948 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and graduated from St. Marys University in May, 1952, with a Bachelors of Business Administration. He immediately entered the United States Army Infantry Division as a Lieutenant serving in Germany for two years. . He learned the mattress trade from his uncle, Ivan Maddox, working for Maddox Mattress Co. through his college years. After leaving the Army in 1954, he purchased Alamo Bedding Company owning it for 41 years. Ray, as he was lovingly known to all his family and friends, enjoyed saltwater fishing and hunting with his buddies at their hunting camp near Rocksprings, TX. He devoted his life to his wife, Patricia Stokes Smith, who predeceased him in 2006, his business, and his loving family. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Ewell and Estelle Maddox Smith; his wife of 49 years, Patricia Stokes Smith; and a niece, Deborah Thigpen. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Claybourne and Louine Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Sid Tarro; his mother-in-law, Una Stokes Miller; brother-in-law, John A. MacDonald of Nashua, NH; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Stokes of Rockport, TX; six nieces, Robin Darnell of Houston, TX, Melissa Hensarling of Dallas, TX, Larissa Alexander of Queen City, TX, Paula Spahn, Belinda Owen and Leann Stokes of Rockport, TX; great nieces, Melissa and Lacie Thigpen, Shannon Owen and Claire Hensarling; grand nephews, Travis Hensarling, Colin and Connor Alexander, Keith and Kevin Spahn, and Ross Owen; great, great nieces, Geneva Thigpen Humes and Emily Owen; and grand, grand nephews Braden Spahn and Joel Owen. He also leaves behind many cousins and dear friends. Rays family would like to thank his caregivers Lourdes Lopez, Gema Herrera, Ruby Fernandez and Maria Rodriguez for the excellent care provided him in the latter years of his life. SERVICES Visitation will be held Sunday, January 21, 2007, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 22, 2007, 1:00 P.M., at the Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in Rays name.
