Amalia (Molly) Ruiz Rios died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on March 10, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on February 22, 1936 in Hebbronville, Texas to Jesus Ruiz and Ada Romero Ruiz. Molly was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert C. Rios and by her three sisters, Laura Valdez, Adriana (Audrey) Puente and Minerva Cruz. She is survived by her daughter, Molly Miller (Alex); son, Robert D. Rios (Roger Peterson); adored grandson, Austin Miller; and numerous nieces & nephews. The oldest of four sisters, Molly enjoyed growing up in an all-girl household. Their sisterly bond was a cornerstone of her life, providing unwavering support and steadfast devotion. This bond continued into adulthood as all four married and raised families in San Antonio. She initiated and regularly hosted “Gab Sessions” to connect with her sisters and nieces. The only rule of Gab was “If you don’t come, you’re the first person we talk about.” Following her graduation from Burbank High School, Molly worked professionally for many years. She began her career at USAA when it was still located on post at Fort Sam Houston. When USAA moved to its Broadway location, Molly vividly recalled being allowed to watch President and Mrs. Kennedy’s motorcade as it made its way from the airport to downtown. It was November of 1963. Molly excelled at USAA. She started in the typing pool but quickly rose to underwriting and eventually a managerial role. After 12 years, she chose to dedicate herself fully to raising her family. Molly put her managerial skills to good use. She frequently held positions in the PTA and was awarded life-time membership in 1985. But mostly, she took care of her family. She was a good neighbor and was a second mother to all her children’s friends. When her youngest went off to college, Molly returned to the workforce. She was secretary to the comptroller at Trinity University for 13 years. There she found new purpose and made many new friends. She retired from Trinity in 1998 and later that year became a grandmother. Thus began a new chapter in her life. Molly and Bob attended school programs, little league games and were a constant presence in their grandson’s life. In her final years, Molly lived with her daughter and son-in-law. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Elsa Pomar, Natalia Gallardo Morales and the other wonderful caregivers at Caring Solutions who lovingly provided companionship and compassion to Molly. SERVICES Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A Memorial Service will be on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at 2:00pm at St. George Episcopal Church, 6904 West Avenue, San Antonio, Texas 78213. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025 at 10:00am at Ft. Sam Houston National.
