In Loving Memory of Andrew Gavin Olguin Our beautiful son, Andrew Gavin Olguin, graced this earth for 22 precious years. He entered into eternal rest on September 11, 2024, in Glendale, Colorado. Though his time with us was brief, his impact was immeasurable, and his memory will live on in our hearts forever. From the moment Gavin was born, we knew he was destined for greatness. His early years at Bonham Academy and later at Travis Early College were marked by his fierce determination and natural leadership. As Student Council Class President, he inspired his peers with his vision and compassion. Gavin’s participation in the Academic Decathlon/ Octathlon and the Science Alliance revealed his boundless curiosity and love for learning. His dedication to the Anti-Bullying Campaign as President showcased his unwavering commitment to justice and kindness. He was also a cherished member of the Debate Team and the National Honor Society, where he fostered a sense of community and mutual respect. Gavin’s academic journey was a testament to his brilliance and perseverance. As a Scholar at the UT Health San Antonio Voelcker Biomedical Research Academy, he delved into crucial research on HPV and cervical cancer health disparities among Hispanic populations. Driven by a desire to make a difference, he often advocated for the underserved and overlooked. His remarkable ability to balance his high school studies with college courses at San Antonio College allowed him to earn an Associate Degree alongside his High School Diploma, a truly extraordinary achievement. His academic pursuits continued at Texas A&M, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Gavin’s thirst for knowledge and passion for helping others led him to Baylor University to pursue a Master’s degree in Social Work, which he later continued at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. His dedication to his studies was matched only by his genuine care for those around him. While living in Colorado, Gavin enjoyed spending time with his boyfriend Shane, the love of his life, as well as their dogs, Allison and Gustavo. He made time to discover local coffee shops, was always eating fast food, and loved hiking the Rocky Mountains with his permed curly hair blowing in the Colorado wind. His work at Orangetheory Arvada was more than just a job; it was a place where he found friendship and a sense of belonging. His colleagues became his second family, as his warmth and generosity touched everyone he met. Gavin’s smile was like sunshine, brightening the lives of those around him. His laughter was a melody that brought joy and comfort. He had a rare gift for making everyone he spoke to feel like they were the center of his universe. Gavin saw no strangers—only friends he had yet to meet. His heart was vast, and his love was deep, embracing everyone in his orbit. He was selfless to the core, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer his jacket to someone in need. His incredible memory meant he never forgot a face or a story, making everyone feel valued and cherished. From the very first moment Gavin entered this world, he had his older brother Nathan to look up to. For Matthew and Aaron, Gavin was nothing short of inspiring. His accomplishments filled them with such pride that they would eagerly share stories about him with anyone who wanted to listen. When Matthew joined the family, Gavin penned a heartfelt letter to his new sibling, promising his unwavering love and support. With Aaron, Gavin saw a smaller reflection of himself and thrived on being involved in his daily life. He made it a point to play Monopoly, enjoy pool time, guide them through life's little challenges, and listen intently to their stories. He embraced his role as their eldest brother with the utmost seriousness and dedication, pouring his heart and soul into it. As a son, Gavin was nothing short of a treasure. He filled our lives with pride and joy, kindness and boundless humor. Even as an adult, he cherished moments lying between Andrew and Gen loving to cuddle and sharing countless hugs that warmed our hearts. Gavin had a knack for giving thoughtful gifts on special occasions, always making us feel cherished and appreciated. We are honored and blessed to be chosen as his parents. Looking back, it turns out as we were raising him, he was teaching us too. Gavin’s gentle and loving spirit was a beacon of light in this world, and his presence will be sorely missed. His legacy of kindness, empathy, and compassion will forever be a guiding star for those who knew him. Rest in peace, our Gavin. Your light will continue to shine in our hearts, and you will always be remembered with love and admiration. Forever in our hearts, Gavin. You will never be forgotten. Andrew Gavin Olguin is preceded in death by his great grandmother, Florinda Acuna Mendoza and grandmother Amelia Barrios Mendoza. Gavin is survived by his father and mother; Andrew and Geneve Olguin, three brothers; Nathan (Lizbet), Matthew, Aaron; paternal grandparents Guadalupe and Juanita Olguin; maternal grandparent Cruz Mendoza, aunts and uncles; Irma and Ralph Mora, Christopher Olguin, Cruz and Petra Mendoza, Gloria and Tim Kaufeldt, Oralia and Johnny Valadez, cousins; Melanie, Benjamin, Kristen, Cruz (Lino), Michael, Jason, Ilyssa, Marissa, Mercedes and nieces; Olivia and Emilia Olguin.
