Our beloved mother, Anita Natal Torres, age 93, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 9, 2017. She was born to G.S. and Anita Vaquera Natal on March 4, 1924 in Martindale, Texas. Anita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jose Acosta Torres; beloved son-in-law, Daniel L. Torres, Jr.; ten brothers and sisters; and her brother-in-law, Angel Lopez. Survivors include nine children: Joe Torres (Linda), Veronica Stevens (Laurence), Robert Torres (Martha), Bernard Torres (Angie), Bernadette Flynn (Arthur), Bridget Hendricks (Mike), Gregory Torres, Dominic Torres (Cathy), and Agatha Torres; 29 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; sisters, Celia Lopez and Mary L. Rivas (John); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Anita attended the former Southwest Texas State University where she met her future husband. She was an Educator and taught for 18 years at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School. Anita opened two childcare facilities including Big Bird Day Care Center which operated for 38 years. Some of her interests included gardening, dancing, bowling, and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Anita enjoyed traveling especially to Spain and Acapulco. She proudly served for five years as Chaplain of the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post 9186. Anita was a lifelong member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church and Guadalupanas. She loved her San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Astros. Most of all, Anita loved and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. “How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings…” Matthew 23:26 Anita’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to CIMA Hospice who provided excellent care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and St. Mary Magdalen Bereavement Ministry. SERVICES Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a Vigil Service and Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive. The Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 A.M. on Friday, March 17, 2017 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 1710 Clower. The Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
