Tributes

On the evening of September 29th, 2025, beloved Antonio (Tony) P. Negrete reunited in heaven with his beloved wife and family. In his 88 years, Tony worked hard to cultivate a life for himself full of love, family, and fatherhood. Born alongside his eight siblings to Santiago and Petra Negrete, he was part of a close knit family. He grew up alongside these siblings in St. Hedwig, Texas. Though there were many of them, they did not lose touch, and each birthday was happily celebrated together up until the very last. Tony was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Upon his return, he reunited with his family, where he met his lifelong partner, Olivia Arriaga. Throughout their time together, the pair faced many challenges, from battling cancer to navigating parenthood. Despite this, never did Tony stray from his wife. Motivated by his love for her, he stood by her in times of need. Together, they raised two sons, John and Michael. Tony spent many hours working to provide for his family in the best way he could. Tony loved to spend his time outdoors, fishing, hunting, and traveling all around the state. His adventures, whether they were for work, for leisure, or for simply exploration, were a major part of who he was. He spread this love to his family, as he brought them along on any adventure he could, big or small. Tony saw the beauty in each river bend, and opportunity in each cave. His excitement to travel was shared by Olivia, and each year, they made it a point to visit The Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan in Harlingen, Texas, together. Until their passings, their faith remained a strong component of who they were, as parents, friends, and as a pair. They grew old together, never wavering from one another and shared a life and love many may only hope to achieve. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Santiago and Petra Negrete, and his brothers, Leo and Rudolph Negrete. He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Catherine Negrete, and Michael and Christian Negrete; his grandchildren, Heather Negrete Mills, Michael Christian, Allegra, and John Negrete Jr.; and his great-grandson, Hunter Christy. He is also survived by his siblings: Santiago (Jimmy) Negrete, Patsy Alvarado, Fred Negrete, Phillip Negrete, and Frances Botello, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.
