Arlyne Fleming of Rockport Texas passed away 12/21/23. She was born 6/17/1920 to Vivian and Ada Layton in Lakeside Nebraska. Arlyne will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her. She is preceded in death by her husband Archie Fleming Sr, her parents Vivian and Ada Layton, brother and sister-in-law Lee and Frida Layton, son and daughter in law Archie and Karen (Vermisch) Fleming Jr. Daughter in law Janet (Finley)Fleming and great, great grandson Zane Gardner. She is survived by son, Robert Fleming Sr (Jeanette). Grandchildren Virginia Fleming Randolph (Buddy), Valerie Fleming Gardner (Frank), Robert Fleming Jr (Missy), Archie Fleming III (April),Melissa Fleming Kendrick (JR),Patty Fleming Van Den Broek (Mike), Michael Dickerson (Sadie), Billie Jane Stevens (James), Jeremie Stevens (Becca).she was also blessed with 16 great grandchildren and 14 great, great grandchildren. Born in Lakeside, Nebraska Arlyne went to high school in Pasadena California where she marched in the Rose Bowl Parade playing her saxophone. After moving to Texas, she met and married Archie A. Fleming in Boerne Texas. When Archie joined the military, she found she loved to travel. In her lifetime she has lived in 23 different states and Japan. She had two sons Archie and Robert. They kept her busy with shenanigans, travel, and family. She received her associates degree from San Antonio Collage. Arlyne had many jobs in her lifetime, she was a school teacher, preschool teacher, office assistant, relief manager, retiring with Farm and Home Savings and Loan as a bank manager. She could never sit still, so she continued to work and travel well into her 80s. she was even a people greeter in Walmart in Del Rio, Texas. She is enjoyed several trips or moves to be closer to family and friends. Her favorites were Los Angles, San Francisco, San Antonio, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Shreveport, and Rockport. She loved trips to Rockport beach with Robert while they had ice cream cones from Dairy Queen. Loved to ride the fairy to go to the beach in Port Aransas, and absolutely loved to entertain company. For her 100th birthday during COVID many people from town did the drive-by birthday parade with cars decorated and waving with horns honking. She was loving every minute of it from the porch with family. One of the neighbors brought her Hawaiian group over to play, sing, and dance for the birthday celebration. Her last few birthdays she spent at her favorite Dairy Queen with family, friends and Oreo ice cream cake. Has now gone to heaven to meet up with the rest of our families and dear friends. She will be buried with her husband Archie AKA Red, in Fort Sam Houston. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m. with funeral services to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Alamo Funeral Chapels.
