Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Arthur Carvajal Salas entered into eternal rest on July 13, 2025, at his residence in San Antonio, Texas. Arthur was born on June 3, 1946, in San Antonio, to Simon Acosta Salas and Josephine Carvajal Salas. He married his middle school sweetheart, Yolanda in 1966 and had four children. After graduating from Lanier High School, he enlisted in the US Army and served his country through two tours in Vietnam. Upon completion of his Army commitment, he enlisted in the US Air Force Reserves, serving 20+ years and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. Aside from his military career, Arthur worked as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service, at Aztec Fence, and even started his own successful small business company, A&J Fence with his sons. Arthur was a devout Catholic and a man of strong faith. He was very active in his church community at St. Alphonso and St. Mary Magdalen Church and School, helping with raffles, dances, and his infamous Poker booth at Church Festivals. He and Yolanda never missed school functions for all their children and grandchildren. Arthur always made time to travel with friends and family, he loved to be on the go. He was a man who found joy not just in destinations, but in the journey shared with those he loved most. With Yolanda by his side, Arthur was always eager in exploring with his family, from sunlit beaches in a camper to grand casinos and quiet villages in Mexico, and many destinations abroad with his church family. He created countless treasured memories on family vacations. Arthur was always ready to hit the road and stumble upon new and interesting places while strengthening the bonds that mattered most. His love of vacationing with family was matched only by his generosity, kindness, and dedication to his loved ones. He never failed to make others smile and laugh. He believed that the greatest journeys were those taken together, and his love of travel was a gift he gave generously to everyone around him. Grandpa, as he was affectionately known; was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him for the way he lived his life, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Although his physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do. As you continue to worship Jesus up there, your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts. Arthur was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Yolanda O. Salas. He is survived by his daughter, Janice Gonzales (Greg); sons, John Alex Salas, Arthur Michael Salas and Timothy Ortiz Salas; sisters, Rachel DeMars (Joseph) and Josephine Lynch (Chris); brothers, Leo Salas (Melba), Simon Salas (Elida) and Roger Salas; grandchildren, Victoria Salas Parker (Craig), Gregory Arthur Gonzales, Arthur Zachary Salas, Kristin Salas, Andrew Jordan Gonzales, Natalie Elise Gonzales, Timothy Miles Salas and Isabel Anastacia Salas; great-grandchildren, James Ramirez, Olivia Sage Levesque and Sofia Parker and many cousins, nieces, nephews and God Children. SERVICES Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 5:00pm-8:00pm, with a Rosary at 6:00pm at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 2004 Chihuahua St., San Antonio, TX 78207. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 10:00am at the church, with interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, with Air Force Honors.
