Arturo R. Grajeda, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather was called home by our heavenly Father on December 28, 2013 at the age of 89. He was born in Aguilares, TX and attended Bruni High School in Bruni, TX. He is survived by his wife of 64 yrs. Carmen, his children Rosalinda G. Cerda, Arthur Grajeda Sharon, Mary G. Vasquez, Yolanda Grajeda, Rene Grajeda Anna, Robert Grajeda, sister Adelfa Farias and numerous nieces and nephews. He was blessed with grandchildren Anna, Melissa, Ruben, Jennifer, Arthur, Bridget, Brandy, Liza, Isaac, Isaiah, Aaron, Lauren, Ericka, Abby and great-grandchildren Janell, Dominic, Dylan, Leah, Dominique, Erin, Amare, Miguel, Liam, Mayer, Daniel, Laila & Myla. He was preceded in death by his parents Teodoro and Guadalupe Grajeda, sister Cristina de la Garza, brother Manuel Grajeda and granddaughter Amanda Rose Almendarez. Arturo served in WWII in the United States Navy, assigned to the USS Pennsylvania which carried him to combat in the Pacific, including Pearl Harbor, Guadacanal, Guam, Wake, and Panama. After the Navy he returned home to Laredo, TX where he attended Laredo Business College, Radio and TV school and met the love of his life. He married Carmen Villarreal and together they moved to San Antonio, TX, where he started his family and career at Kelly Air Force Base. He retired from Kelly AFB in 1986, after 38 years of civil service. At home he was a handyman and loved to barbeque for the family. He had many hobbies, two of which he turned into businesses. He was a TV and Radio repairman in the early years and later started his own Videography business. He loved music, photography, magic tricks and watching football and boxing. He was also a man who loved practical jokes. Even in his final days, he was playing practical jokes on mom and making us laugh. He was a man of integrity and wisdom, and always walked in love. He will be greatly missed, but we know now he is our angel in heaven, our shining star. He was the heart & strength of our family and will forever be in our hearts. He was, and always will be, our hero. "In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." - John 14:2 Visitation will begin on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life service at 7:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
