Bebe Nelda Canales Inkley, born January 29th, 1935 passed away on August 9th, 2015. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She was born in Premont, Texas. Bebe was one of three children. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Gus Canales. She was a graduate of Incarnate Word High School and attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida and University of Texas, Austin, Texas. Bebe was very creative and was devoted to many nonprofit boards. Bebe was a founder of the following philanthropic boards; Los Compadres, The Children's Museum and the Magik Children's Theatre and Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem Southwestern Lieutenancy U.S.A. She was a past president of the San Antonio Conservation Society and the San Antonio Opera Guild. Bebe was very active in the American Alumni Council. In 1982, Bebe was the recipient of the University of Texas Top Hand Award. She was a life member and a key member of the following University of Texas Committees: Centennial Commission, Commission 125 and the Development Board. She also served on the Texas Exes Scholarship Committee and was Vice Chairman and Graphic Director of "Cook'Em Horns Cookbook" and "Quickbook Cookbook". One of her dearest accomplishments was co-writing with her sister, Cisi, "It's All in the Game" Cookbook. It represented her love of her family, heritage and legacy. Bebe loved listening to classical music, reading about Texas history, speaking Spanish, laughing, being with her family and socializing with friends. Bebe touched the lives of many people with her kindness, her smile and her generosity. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Gus Canales, husband Sherwood William Inkley, son Sherwood Scott Inkley and brother in law Luther M. Inkley Jr. She is survived by her sister, Mary Virginia "Cisi" Canales Jary and husband Lloyd Walker Jary Jr, her brother Gus Canales and wife Pat, sister-in-law Suzanne S. Inkley. Children: Kimberle Inkley Richards and Husband Don C. Richards III, Elise Inkley Reckling and James S. Reckling. Grandchildren: Elizabeth Richards, Katherine Richards, Sterling Reckling, Lauren Reckling, Christiana Reckling and Elizabeth Reckling. Her family wishes to thank physician's Dr. Heberto Garza and Dr. Paul Smith. Silvia Perez, Teresa De La O and Manual Arbizu for their kindness. The staff at the Forum, Nix Private Care and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care. SERVICES Friends and family are invited to attend a rosary Sunday August 16th at 5:00 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church 223 E. Summit, San Antonio, TX 78212. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday August 17th, 10:30 AM at Saint Anthony de Padua Church 102 Lorenz Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209. Pallbearers are Mark Kenner Coon, Lloyd Walker "Cy" Jary III, Travis Allison Mathis, Virgil Oliver Rosser IV, Travis Lee McLeod and Clint J. Nieto. Honorary Pallbearers are Charles T. Hornsby, Chris H. Hinojosa IV, Harry Mitchell, Fred J. Tips III, Larry Dean Schmidt, Steve Sinclair and Roy Vaughan. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Houston in a private ceremony.
