Tributes

On July 6, 2026, our father, Bedie L Craighead, Jr. decided it was time for him to join our mother, Patsy Sue Craighead, in heaven. And so, he did - at 101 years of age. Not many people get to say they had their Dad by their sides for so long a period of their lives as we have. He was a brilliant husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, square dancer, fisherman, and erstwhile poker player. He designed and built some of the most amazing properties in San Antonio and surrounding areas. He was honest and loyal, which is proven by so many of his home building clients that have remained friends with him for decades. He treasured and honored those friendships along with ones that he kept from his very early childhood right through until the end of his life. As a student pilot in WWII, he qualified to fly the P-40 Warhawk fighter as a 20 year old - an accomplishment not many attained. He loved airplanes and celebrated his 101st birthday flying in the front of the same plane, now renovated, that he flew as a student pilot 80 years ago. He had a great sense of humor and was an accomplished practical joker. The sillier the better. For those who know...he is being buried with the blue cowboy hat. In addition to his being a third generation homebuilder and father, Dad was a City Councilman for Castle Hills, Texas, a volunteer fireman, dedicated youth baseball coach in Little League for his sons, and a proud member of the Alzafar Shrine where he was the President of the Alzafar Trailer Club, with whom he and our Mom traveled many, many miles. He loved Bob Ross and spent hours painting happy little trees. He played a mean harmonica and wagged his daughter all over the State of Texas with her horse. Dad is predeceased by our Mom, Patsy Sue Craighead, and his sister, Dorothy Craighead McConnell; his daughter in law Nell Jenschke Craighead and Son in Law Dan Schooley. In addition, his is predeceased by his grandchildren, Jill Craighead Anthony and Matthew Morgan Schooley. He leaves behind a vibrant family consisting of Don Craighead, David (Bubba) and Shelia Craighead, and Peggy Craighead Schooley and their children, Julie Craighead, Chris Craighead, Jenny Craighead Rawlinson, Ben Schooley, and Clayton Craighead. He leaves 13 great grandchildren and numerous, numerous nieces and nephews A special love note goes to our cousin, Susie Mooney, and her children, who always had time and food to share with Dad.. God speed, Daddy.
