Benell L. Lindsey age 97 of San Antonio went on to be with our Lord on Friday, August 21, 2015. She was born April 12, 1918 in Honey Grove. Texas to Ben Lee and Laura Browning Carter who preceded her in death. In addition to her over 30 year membership at Crossroads Baptist Church in San Antonio, Benell was very active in Churches throughout her life; family and friends were very important to her as well as helping others. She was a former resident of McAllen, Texas where she worked as Payroll Supervisor at McAllen I.S.D. handling well over 2100 employees until her retirement. Her professional positions include president of the Valley Educational Secretaries' Association as well as numerous other professional secretaries' associations on the state and local levels. In addition to her parents, Benell was also preceded in death by her husbands, Ira Pope, E.C. Owens and Hugh Lindsey as well as her two sons, Fred Gordon Pope and Larry Neal Pope. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Donna Kay Green; grandchildren, Deborah Gonzalez and her husband, Johnny, Gordon Pope, Neal Pope and his wife, Leticia and Lori M. Clark and her husband, Dr. Keith Clark; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; her late husband, Hugh's daughters, Jenelle Lindley and her husband, Joe and Margaret Ann Rodgers and her husband, James and their families; as well as her friends and staff at Madison Estates as if they were her own family. Her family would like to express their gratitude to all those who have touched her life such as the Doctors and Staffs of Methodist Hospital, Mystic Park Assisted Living, Heritage Creek Assisted Living and Gentiva Hospice. SERVICE Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 beginning at 10:00 A.M. followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 A.M. at Crossroads Baptist Church, 8300 Tezel Road with Rev. Dr. Doug Diehl, officiating. A Reception will follow at the Church. A Graveside Service will be on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen, TX with Charles Carter, her grand nephew, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in her memory be made to Crossroads Baptist Church Building Fund.
