Betty M. Whitehead, age 95, passed away on June 7, 2019. She was born December 1, 1923, to Thomas and Ruth McDonald in Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana. She was raised with her brother, Thomas, Jr., in the small midwest town of Speed, Indiana. Her dad, Thomas, Sr., was a chief engineer for the Louisville Cement Company, and their life was good. In 1945 she married Allan Douglas Hinman from Loupe City, Nebraska. Shortly after they married, Allan enlisted as an officer in the US Air Force. Together they began and shared life as a military family in the US Air Force, raising two daughters, Ellen Beth and Leslie Ruth. In 1968 Betty married her second husband, Wesley (Wes) K. Whitehead. They lived and loved together for 48 years until Wesley’s passing in 2016. During that time they created a thriving real estate business, starting with a one-room office in their home, growing from there into Whitehead Holiday Century-21 in San Antonio, which later became Whitehead Realty, Inc. Betty and Wesley loved to travel together, bringing home cherished memories through their photographs and beautiful art pieces. Some of their adventures were in Europe, Mexico, Canada, and North and Central America. They were longtime members of Dominion Country Club where they were both avid golfers for many years. Betty and Wes loved a good party and entertaining friends and family. Her favorite pastimes were swimming, traveling, reading and participating with the Dominion’s women’s groups. Betty and Wesley’s marriage of 48 years signified the bringing together of two families. Betty is survived by her two daughters, Ellen Beth Hinman of San Antonio, TX, Leslie Ruth Key and husband, Jim, of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren Heather Aubrey Hinman-Navarro and husband, Eddie, of San Antonio, TX, Shana Lea Saunders-English and husband, Neil, of Phoenix, AZ, Allan Tyree (Ty) Key and wife, Allison, of Phoenix, AZ, step-grandchildren Emily Lamont Key of Phoenix, AZ, Lawson Hughes Key and wife, Keri of Surprise, AZ; great-grandchildren Kylee Shay Saunders, Aubrey Alexis Hinman-Navarro, Maycee Jane Rosenfeld, Ellie Anniston Hinman-Navarro, Everlee May English, Ensley Honor Hinman-Navarro, and step-great-grandson Rylan Hughes Key. Betty is also survived by the Wesley Whitehead family: Step-son Charles (Chuck) Whitehead and wife, Becky, of San Antonio, step-son Myles Whitehead and wife, Sylvie, of Waddington, NY, step-daughter Constance (Connie) Smith and husband, David, of Joshua, TX, step-son William Whitehead and wife, Margaret, of McKinney, TX, step-son Robert and wife, Ann, of Garland, TX, step-son James and wife, Janice, of San Antonio, TX; 11 step-grandchildren, and 16 step-great-grandchildren.
