A loving husband, father, grandfather (the kids called him “Pap”) and friend, Bill Lewey answered the Lord’s calling on April 1, 2023. Bill was born January 25, 1929, in Buffalo, Missouri to Hugh and Opal Lewey. While growing up in Missouri, Bill enjoyed all kinds of sports and outdoor activities but before long, he met his wife Mildred, and she became the light of his world. In Missouri, Bill joined the United States Air Force and moved to San Antonio in 1948. They started their family and welcomed their two children into the world, Neal and Nancy Ann. In San Antonio, Bill continued his military journey for 22 years before retiring. Following his retirement, he took up mechanics and worked as a small marine engine mechanic. He could fix almost any motor and loved to do so. Whether it was for work or just helping a friend, everyone could count on Bill to service their motor and get it back to working order. Besides his mechanical work, Bill had a great love for all things outdoors. His greatest passion was hunting, no matter what animal it was, when one season ended, Bill was preparing for the next. He also enjoyed going out to eat with his many, many friends and recently discovered Outback Steakhouse. He was an avid reader and a fan of classic westerns. If he wasn’t reading a hunting magazine or western classic, he was watching his shows like “Gunsmoke” or “Rifleman”. During basketball season you could catch him watching the San Antonio Spurs. Alongside his love for hunting and watching or reading westerns was his love and passion for his family. Bill adored his wife Mildred and their two children. Most of all he loved to dance with Mildred. Their dancing journey began when they took dancing lessons and after that there was no turning back. The two loved to show off their talent and moved across any dance floor with grace. Bill lived a blessed life and was a devoted member of Harlandale United Methodist church. His strong faith kept him and his family close to the Lord. Bill will be missed dearly by all who knew him. His family will miss having his kind spirit next to them. Bill is survived by his son Neal Lewey and his wife Becky, 3 grandchildren: Jason and his wife Sheila, Brian and his wife Brenda, Meri Jean and her husband Chris, 8 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, his sister Jessie Keeton and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Bill will be reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife Mildred Lewey, their daughter Nancy Ann Hyden, his parents Hugh and Opal Lewey, and brothers Hugh Eugene Lewey and Harold Dean Lewey. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to his beloved church, Harlandale United Methodist.
