Carl Ray Halfacre passed away peacefully on June 23, 2006 in the loving arms of his family. He was a fighter confronting his three years of illness with quiet courage, strength and undying faith. He was born on December 16, 1922 in Livingston, TN, to the late Hank B. and Eula M. Halfacre. He was part of what Tom Brokaw called The Greatest Generation. He honorably served his country during WWII with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater on board the USS Alpine and again in the Korean conflict on board the USS Reclaimer. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather to his family. He loved his children unconditionally, each having a unique and cherished relationship with him. He was the happiest when all the family was together. Ray retired at Kelly AFB after more than 36 years of dedicated service. He loved to play golf with his buddies, work on cars and watch the SPURS and Cowboys. He was a loyal friend and his word was as good as gold. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Although Ray has moved on to better serve our Lord, those who knew him and loved him will carry him in their hearts forever. His presence in our lives made us who we are today. He will be greatly missed by all. We pray that he has found everlasting peace and that he will continue to smile upon us from above. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Hank. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Patricia; by his loving daughters and their husbands: Holly Simmons Don, Kristi Thaxton Kirk, and Ashley Stewart Leon; his son, Ronald; his precious grandchildren, Leah Simmons, Megan Duderstadt, Morgan Stockberger, Matthew Thaxton Akane, Kyle and Kaitlin Thaxton, Candace, Ashlea, Will and Carlie Stewart and great-grandson, Brodie Beers; by his brothers, Robert Halfacre Betsy, Donald Halfacre; sister, Judy Ernst Fritz; aunts, A.G. Meadows and Janet Deckert; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and by many, many friends. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all who prayed and supported them, to his loving care giver, Linda Salas, and to all the doctors and staff that tirelessly assisted over the past three years. SERVICES The family will receive friends on June 26, 2006 from 6 9 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. The funeral service will be held on June 27, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. in the Northside Church of Christ, Ministers David Allen, Mike Hartsell and Roy Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, with military honors.
