Carlos Chavez passed away peacefully at home on May 9, 2026, at the age of eighty-eight. A beloved husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and respected veteran, lived a life rooted in family, service, and quiet strength. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Carlos was one of eight children of Francisco and Inez Chavez. He began his 37-year military career with the United States Army on January 14, 1960, serving his country with honor, discipline, and integrity. Throughout his years of service, he carried himself with humility and steadfast dedication. Carlos married the love of his life, Patricia Chavez, in 1967, and they shared 59 years together, building a loving home and family in San Antonio. Their marriage was defined by devotion, loyalty, and enduring love. Carlos was defined not by loud words, but by quiet actions. He was selfless, reliable, intelligent, observant, and endlessly generous. He gave freely, loved deeply, and never sought recognition for his kindness. He cherished his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Chavez, and his son, Carlos Chavez, Jr. Their love and memory live on through the family they held so dear. Carlos is survived by his children, Joel, Bianca, Maricella, Christabel, and Midori. He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense pride and joy to his life. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through his compassion, wisdom, loyalty, and unwavering love. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, especially Adriana Mercado, RN, and the caregivers who provided Carlos with compassionate care and comfort in his final days. They are also grateful to his barber, Ms. Fran, who always greeted him warmly and provided home services so he could look and feel his best. Caring for Carlos truly took a village, and his children and grandchildren stepped in to ensure he was surrounded by dignity, comfort, and love. Special thanks to his daughter-in-law, Monica Chavez, for her devoted love and support through his final days. Carlos will be remembered as a man of honor, devotion, and heart—a true example of strength, sacrifice, and unconditional love. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the stories shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely. Rosary services will be held in his honor on June 4, 2026, at Mission Park Funeral Home, 3401 Cherry Ridge, San Antonio, Texas 78230. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. On June 5, 2026, visitation will continue at Mission Park Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a Chapel Service at 10:00 a.m. Departure to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery will be at 10:45 a.m. The Committal Service with Military Honors will begin promptly at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the San Antonio Humane Society in Carlos’s memory.
