Deacon Carlos Salinas Carlos Lazaro Salinas entered eternal rest June 14th at the age of 90. He was born in Rio Grande City, Texas December 17, 1925 to Jose and Evangelina Salinas. He graduated from High School and joined the Army, serving in the European Theater with the 1004th Engineering Services Battalion during WWII. Upon fulfilling duty to country, he attended the University of Texas, earned his BBA degree and began work with different companies in a variety of roles. One endeavor was with HB Zachry Company where he met the love of his life, Genoveva Martinez, and married in 1953. He retired after managing the International Duty-Free Store at San Antonio International Airport for nearly 30 years. Carlos and his wife were one of the original families that established the parish of St. Leonard's Catholic Church. A devout Catholic, Carlos became very involved in various ministries including usher, lector, Eucharistic minister, and culminating in being ordained permanent deacon in 1977. Carlos and his wife belonged to the Order of St. Stephen, an informal group of deacons and their wives that enjoy Christian fellowship and Bible study. At work, church or at home, Carlos was dedicated to walking in Christ's light and helping others in whatever capacity possible. He also served many years as chaplain at Southwest General Hospital. He was preceded in death by Genoveva, his wife of 56 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Cesar Salinas, Eleazar Salinas and Hector Salinas. Carlos is survived by his children Sylvia I. Pastrano and husband Willie, son Carlos E. Salinas and wife Maria Linda, and sister Mirtala Ramirez; granddaughter Christina Michelle Cornell and husband Shaun, grandson Eric William Pastrano and wife Amanda, grandson Mark Anthony Pastrano and wife Kristen, granddaughters Lisa Michelle Salinas, Erica Nicole Salinas and Amanda Kaitlyn Salinas; great granddaughters Megan Michelle Cornell, Sara Nicole Cornell, Addyson Jade Pastrano, Aubrey Gayle Pastrano, Annsley Kate Pastrano, and Abigail Grace Pastrano; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews as well as countless friends. The family would like to extend its thanks to the support staffs at Regent Care in both San Antonio and The Woodlands for their kind care and dedication in providing Carlos with the assistance he needed with everyday duties for maintaining a person's dignity. Services A visitation and viewing will begin Friday, June 17, from 5PM to 9PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7PM led by Deacon Ibarra of St. Leonard's Catholic Church. A procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30AM on Saturday, June 18 to conduct the Funeral Mass at St. Leonard's Catholic Church at 10AM. After procession to the cemetery, entombment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery #2 located at 746 Castroville Road.
