Carole Thompson June 16, 1941 – February 9, 2025 Carole Thompson entered eternal rest on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the age of 83. She was born on June 16, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard Thompson; parents Henry and Josephine Keil; sister Mary Keil, sister-in-law Betty Wolf Keil, and great-niece Meghan Ramirez. She is survived by her daughters Kelley Thompson and Jennifer Niemietz (Michael); son Christopher Thompson; grandsons Zachary Niemietz and Alex Niemietz; brothers Donald Keil (Deborah), Dennis Keil, Henry Keil Jr. (Karen), Gene Keil (Patricia); brothers-in law Hugh Allen Thompson (Verna), Michael Thompson (Rafe Saenz), and sister-in-law Jean Thompson (Vernon) along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. Born Carole Anne Keil, she grew up in San Antonio with her brothers and sister on the south side of town, graduating from Blessed Sacrament Academy in 1959. Her family were active in sports and someone always had a game; Carole was a great softball and volleyball player, continuing to play later on in her thirties. She was a darn good ping pong player, too. Carole had known Richard almost her whole life and they married on June 2, 1962. Richard's four brothers became her brothers too, and they and their spouses and children have always been a greatly loved part of her life. In 1968 Carole and Richard adopted their daughter Kelley; three and a half years later, they were blessed with a baby of their own, daughter Jennifer in 1972, and later, son Christopher in 1977. Carole stayed home with the kids and made a wonderful and happy life and home for her family. Camping every summer at Park Chalk Bluff, fishing at her father's cabin at Lake Mathis, and weekend barbecues were some of her favorite things to do. Carole always loved to work in her garden; various vegetables over the years, but always tomatoes. Lots of flowers and other plants, too; roses were a favorite, along with spider plants, esperanzas, and ivies. She also loved baking, cookies and bread mainly, and would always send a loaf home to friends and family, especially her very dear brothers Donnie and Dennis. When the kids were older, Carole went back to work at JCPenney, first at McCreless, then South Park Mall; she loved working there, and made many wonderful and dear friends in her years at JCP. Carole was always a devout Catholic, active in her church, St. Margaret Mary, and while she was still able, never missed mass. She enjoyed socializing with good friends after mass, too, over coffee and doughnuts, or breakfast tacos. And she was always happy to play bunco with them, and later looked forward to lunch and dominoes every Friday with her ladies; she missed this so very much when they were unable to play anymore. Indeed, one of the greatest joys of her life was her many cherished friendships; friends she had made in childhood, high school, young adulthood working at the Federal Reserve, later while working at Penney's, and at church, were still her friends at the time of her passing. She did her best to keep in touch with everyone, always thinking about them and praying for them. She was blessed to have so many wonderful and loving people in her life, family and friends, and we were all blessed to have her. Carole will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with a procession to depart the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at San Jose Burial Park.
