Carrie Gutierrez Saiz joined her Lord on September 30th, 2024 at her residence in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by her children and family. She was born on April 23rd, 1948 in San Antonio, to Tiofilo Gutierrez and Amalia Gamez. Carrie is survived by her son, Wayne Saiz; daughter, Stacy Saiz (Ernesto Gonzalez); brothers, Daniel Gutierrez and Henry Gutierrez; niece Celeste Gutierrez; and nephews James Michael Gutierrez and Henry Roland Gutierrez. Carrie also loved and leaves behind her canine companion, Roscoe. Her positive outlook on life and beautiful character shined everywhere she went. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, Carrie attended college and enjoyed making dresses for her social club dances. She started her career with the government and dedicated over 29 years of service, retiring in 2014. During her career, Carrie earned numerous training certificates and completion of task awards, traveled TDY and was crowned Miss Kelly Air Force Base. Carrie lived for the smiles and successes of her children, Wayne and Stacy. No matter what she faced daily, Carrie taught her children to never give up, “Every road has speed bumps and potholes, so go with caution and keep your eyes on the road to success”. Between both children, Carrie was an active homeroom mother, Den mother with the Boy Scouts, a football mom, basketball mom, volleyball mom, soccer mom and loved every minute of being an Oliver Wendell Band mom. Everyone knew you could find Carrie on the Holmes High School campus after work hours and on weekends sewing band uniforms by hand and encouraging students to do their best on the field and in the classroom. She was a proud mother and played an integral role in their collegiate and professional careers while cheering and encouraging her children’s participation in the community. Throughout her life, Carrie was passionate about the people she loved, always ready to listen and help others in need. Carrie looked forward and enjoyed traveling and visiting with her family to Dallas, Arizona and the annual Thanksgiving trip to the coast with Wayne, Stacy and Ernest. One of Carrie’s favorite family vacations was to Hawaii. Carrie battled cancer 19 years to date. In 2005, she was diagnosed with aggressive Breast cancer. During Carrie’s last 9 years of her career, she bravely attended chemotherapy, radiation treatments and underwent numerous brain surgeries. Her beautiful smile and positive outlook is an inspiration to everyone she touched. Carrie was beautiful inside and out, honored God, worked hard, raised a beautiful family, loved our country, loved music and dancing, enjoyed making wreaths crafts, volunteered on base, fought cancer, stronger than strong and braver than brave. The family would like to thank our extended family, friends, neighbors and Anchorage Hospice for their love and support during this difficult time. Carrie is preceded in death by her parents, Tiofilo Gutierrez and Amalia Gamez; and nephew Danny Jr. Gutierrez. Carrie will forever live in our heart and deeply missed by everyone who knew her. You fought the fight, your body was tired, now you can rest. SERVICES Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 5:00pm -8:00pm, with a Rosary at 6:00pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 14, 2024 at 10:00am at St. Dominic Catholic Church, where services will conclude with a celebration of life.
