Catherine Patricia Denk October 31, 1924 – April 7, 2017 Catherine Patricia “Pat” Denk, 92, died peacefully in her home with her husband, Hank, at her side. Born to Marie & Charles Mulholland in Marshall, Texas, Pat is preceded in death by her children Henry Joseph “Joe” Denk and Marie Louise Mead, siblings Msgr. Charles Mulholland, Sally Murphey and John Mulholland. She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years Henry “Hank” Denk, daughters Patricia Powers (Billy), Sarah Mazer Cavello (Dominic), Susan Denk (Deborah Cundy), son Charles Denk, her grandchildren Sean and Elizabeth Mazer, her sister Agnes Verhalen and many loving family members. Pat dedicated her entire life to her husband, family, friends and her nursing career. Hers was a life of service. Pat’s nursing career began in Marshall, Texas and then as an Ensign in the United States Navy at the end of WWII. It was there she met Hank. Together they began the journey of their lives. As the mother of six children and supportive of Hank in the numerous moves of his career, Pat always kept the wheels on and the family rolling down the road. She enjoyed life as a wife, mother, nurse and a devout member of every parish in which they lived. Her nursing career spanned more than 46 years professionally and throughout her lifetime as a nurse “in service” to every kid needing stitches removed or friend or family member as they were coming into this world or leaving it. Pat could always be counted on to be there with an astonishing capacity for compassion and strength. She was often heard to say, “I just loved being a nurse.” She held a MS in Nursing from Kent State. Pat was an avid bridge and tennis player and lifelong golfer. She loved playing both with the ladies and as a partner with Hank. She was a quick wit, a playful spirit and looked forward to every reason to celebrate happy occasions with family and friends. She was a wonderful role model for her children and all she encountered. “To whom much has been given, much is expected.” (Luke 12:48) Pat exceeded all expectations, and we are so very grateful that she was given to us. The family wishes to thank Sisters Care of Incarnate Word for their attentiveness and kindness. Visitation will be Sunday April 16, 2017 at Mission Park Funeral Chapel North 3 – 5pm. Holy Rosary and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday April 17, 2017 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church beginning at 10:00a.m. followed by interment in Mission Park North. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Village of Incarnate Word or St. Luke’s Catholic Church.
