B E L C H E R Charlotte Menger Belcher passed away April 7, 2011. Charlotte lived each day as an opportunity to express devotion, love, and selflessness, all fostered by faith in God and enduring love for her husband and family. Charlotte was a Southern lady in the truest sense of the word, striving always to be an example for her "girls," proper, gallant, charitable, and cheery. She centered her life on her faith and her family; she always got a kick from the updates about her grandchildren's "doings." All were talented and brilliant in her eyes. Outings to the library, good novels, cards, piano songs, oil paintings, and family trips to the coast made for happy days. Born November 17, 1927 to a family with roots deep in San Antonio soil, she loved Texas and her town. Her Menger heritage delighted her, and she shared many stories of the Simon Menger's Soap Works and the William and Mary Menger's hotel, both founded in the 1850s. Her grandfather, Dr. Rudolph Menger, was an early City Physician and wrote "Texas Nature Observations and Reminiscences." Her parents were Charlotte Malone Menger and Rudolph W. Menger, a partner in the family's H & H Coffee Company. Her parents taught Charlotte the beauty of the Texas countryside, and her mother, an early student of Jose Arpa, inspired her love of painting bluebonnets. Charlotte attended Incarnate Word High School, graduated from Alamo Heights, and attended Incarnate Word College. Brothers John, Robert, and Steve Menger preceded her in death. She leaves behind her beloved and faithful husband of 59 years, William C. Belcher with whom she had three children, Nancy Draves, Janie Loontjer, and Patricia Belchere. Charlotte had five grandchildren, Jennifer, Timmy, Garrett, Melissa, and Aaron, and great-grandchildren, Alessandra, Brynn, and Cash, as well as niece Charlotte Menger Harpole. Charlotte was a member of the Salvation Army Woman's Auxiliary, Empress Candle Garden Club, and the Altar Society. S E R V I C E S Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday April 16, 2011 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, 1700 SE Military Dr., with interment to follow in the Menger family plot at Mission Burial Park South.
