Christie Ann Vargas went to be with the Lord on April 14, 2020, at the age of 44, in San Antonio, TX. She was born on March 26, 1976 in Abilene, TX. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Wilma Walker and Bert Walker; paternal grandparents, Flossie Gardner and Robert Sommers; aunt, Lynda Gonzalez and cousin, Larry Sommers aka Little Larry. Christie is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, Oscar Vargas; parents, Garry Sommers and Peggy Carlson; children, Christopher Mazzucco, Joshua Mazzucco and wife Jordan, Annabelle Vargas and Octavius Vargas; 4 grandchildren, Arabella, Kynnlie, Kamryn and Charlotte; brothers, Michael Sommers and wife Angie, and Howard “Keith” Bradford and wife Kristy; niece and nephew, Savannah and Caleb Sommers; Oscars niece and nephews, Carlos Vargas, Othon, Valeria, Manuel, and other extended family members and friends. Christie will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Christie was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend to many. She was a little spitfire with a heart of gold. She was born March 26, 1976 to Peggy and Gary in Abilene, Texas, she would spend most of her young childhood there surrounded by her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Still early in her life and thru her teens she moved to Dallas, Texas where she learned to make lifelong friends. She became a young mother at the age of 16 to Christopher then two years later to Joshua. Their father Robert and Christie remained great friends throughout the years. In early 2001 Christie met Oscar while at work and in less than 3 years they married in San Antonio. For 7 years Christie was searching for her calling in life and it was to be a nurse. Christie graduated in 2009, from nursing school. In December of that same year she gave birth to Annabelle and Octavius. You knew when she was around because she would draw you in with her big smile, warm heart, and southern drawl. She had such an amazing personality and she loved with all she had. If you were her patient, then it meant you were apart of her extended family because she would go above and beyond to make sure you were taken care of the right way. She was the type of friend that would drop everything to be there for you and she wouldn’t leave your side. She stood up for what she believed in and gave her two cents if you liked it or not. She has touched many people’s lives through her lifetime, and she will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Even though we won’t be able to see her, I know we will be able to feel her presence from time to time so that we will know she is watching over us. Her life was a living example of a poem honoring nurses, “She was there” she showed up for her family, co-workers, and patients. Taking care of others wasn’t just her job, it was the core of who she was. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 21, 2020 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery 3.
