Clara Altobelli, 95 of San Antonio loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Clara was born in Winchester, Illinois on February 6, 1929 to Alice and Jack Coultas. Her family moved to the Rio Grande Valley, arriving on Pearl Harbor Day, the 7th of December, 1941. During the war she was a Civil Air Patrol cadet. In 1949 she married Anselmo Gino “Al” Altobelli. They moved to San Antonio in 1955 and Clara has lived there since. After Al passed in 1973, she went to school and received an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. Clara was employed as an R.N. for approximately 25 years until her retirement. She was active in St. Gregory’s and St. Matthew’s parishes, including school-related volunteering, VIP, and St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was an avid quilter and shared her quilts widely. She enjoyed traveling and was ever-ready with her camera to record special moments. She truly touched everyone she met. Clara raised six children, as well as being a large and valued part of her grandchildren’s lives. In addition to Al, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Anne Lutz; her great-grandson, Luke; her two brothers, Dan Coultas and Joe Coultas and her sister, Mildred Greenwell. She is survived by her children, Stephen Altobelli (Kathleen), Robert Anthony “Tony” Altobelli (Rebecca), Michael Altobelli (Barbara), Jane Sears (Scott), Marc Altobelli (Lisa); daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Owens; grandchildren, David (Molly) and Rachel (Christine), Gino (Elizabeth) and Angie, Jason (Jacqueline) and Martha (Steven), Matthew, Megan (James), Michelle (Rocky) and Melissa, Emma, Camille and Caroline, and Sophia; great grandchildren, Jude, Emiliano, Vivienne and Catarina, Thomas and Marcus, Cole, Will and Evan, and Georgia; her sister: Barbara Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. The Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, December 27, 2024 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 10703 Wurzbach Road. Interment will follow at 12:00 noon at San Fernando Cemetery II. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church.
