It is with much love that we celebrate the life of Cleo M Amos Bonnett Sumerlin, who departed this world on October 5, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 99, due to kidney failure. Her remarkable journey began on August 15, 1925, in the humble setting of a train car in Hookersville, West Virginia, born to loving parents Calvin and Rosella (Moul) Amos. As a young girl of just 14, Cleo made the brave journey to San Antonio, Texas, a place she would call home for the rest of her life. She was a woman who never met a stranger, her heart and home always open to those around her. Throughout her life, Cleo possessed a unique gift; she had a remarkable way of turning every negative into a positive, a trait that endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Cleo's passions were as varied as they were enriching. She found joy in reading her Bible, tending to her garden, solving word search puzzles, and writing heartfelt letters. Her hands were never idle, often busy cracking pecans, a task she found both simple and immensely satisfying. She was a woman who 'never met a stranger', greeting each person with warmth and openness, a quality that endeared her to all who crossed her path. During World War II, Cleo proudly contributed to the war effort by working at Kelly Field, but her true calling was being a homemaker, where she poured her love and energy into nurturing her family. Family was the cornerstone of Cleo's life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Clifford L (Pete) Bonnett and Sylvan Sumerlin, her dear son Clifford L Bonnett, Jr., as well as seven sisters and two brothers. Cleo is survived by her daughter, Barbara Pribyla, her cherished sister, Juanita Davis, and her caring daughters-in-law, Marsha Bonnett and Vianne (Bonnett) Albach. Cleo's legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Tammy, David, Jack, Larry, April, and Amanda (Steffon), and her numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who were all touched by her love and wisdom. Cleo's final days were a testament to the love and care that surrounded her. With heartfelt gratitude, the family extends a special thank you to Trinity Hospice for their compassionate service in keeping Cleo comfortable and to Place of Grace, her home church, for their prayers. Cleo passed peacefully in her home, surrounded in the love of her devoted caregivers Marsha, April, and Amanda Bonnett. Prayers of thanks are also extended to her late son, Clifford Bonnett, Jr., who provided care and companionship to his mother until his final days. In celebration of Cleo's extraordinary life, a funeral service will be held on October 22, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM with services starting at 12:30 PM at the Alamo Funeral Home, located at 624 N Alamo St, San Antonio, TX 78215. Graveside services and internment will begin at 2:00 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather, remember, and honor the incredible life of a woman who brought joy and positivity into the lives of all who knew her. As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we find solace in knowing that she is now reunited with those she loved who went before her, and that her light will continue to shine through the lives she touched. Rest in peace, Cleo M Amos Bonnett Sumerlin. You will be profoundly missed and always remembered.
