Consuelo P. Reyes, born on August 16, 1935, went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2016 at the age of 80. Consuelo was blessed to be adopted by adoring parents, Preciliano and Carmen M. Perez. Her beloved "Mama and Deddy" showered Consuelo with affection and ensured that she received a good education and roots in Christian faith by way of the Catholic Church. Consuelo met the love of her life, Pedro during her childhood and found some of her dearest playmates among Pedro's siblings. Consuelo held jobs in bookkeeping and other office work and as a church organist. After Consuelo and Pedro married in 1957, Consuelo dedicated herself to raising her children and a multitude of pets, including dogs, cats, canaries, parakeets, hamsters, mice, and fish. During her Christian journey, Consuelo prayed often and faithfully to St. Jude, was often seen wearing one of her colorful sets of rosary beads, and took part in church and communion services offered at her assisted living homes. Consuelo's children lost count of the number of times people would say that their mother was "so cute", "so sweet" or "like my second mom." Consuelo easily made friends and took an interest in the lives of those who cared for and ministered to her. Consuelo's loves included playing bingo, shopping for small gifts for others "just because," tending to her potted plants, helping to prepare family-favorite foods like caldo, tortillas, and holiday sweets, and spending any time she could with animals. She was photo-featured in the San Antonio Express News in November 2014 in a story about King Tut, a visiting therapy cat that Consuelo loved holding and squeezing. Consuelo was preceded in death by her parents, Preciliano and Carmen Perez, husband Pedro G. Reyes Jr., and her daughter, Gabriela Perez. She is survived by her loving children, Gilbert P. Reyes; Christine P. Reyes-Swank and her husband Jerry E. Swank, Jr.; and Cathleen R. Palomino and her husband Rogelio G. Palomino; and grandchildren Kenneth Gilbert, Halo, Cortana, and Riddick. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South from 5PM to 9PM with the Vigil and Holy Rosary to be recited at 7PM. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11:30AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 6680 Crestway Drive.
