In Loving Memory of Daniel "Danny" Ortiz It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Daniel "Danny" Ortiz, affectionately known to family and friends as "Dan the Man." Danny entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the age of 75. Danny was born on January 5, 1951, in Karnes City, Texas, to Candelario and Esther Ortiz. As the eldest of eight siblings, he embraced the role of big brother with love, guidance, and unwavering support. He graduated from McCollum High School in 1970, where he excelled in baseball and basketball, beginning a lifelong love of sports that he later shared with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Candelario and Esther Ortiz; his brothers, Delmiro Ortiz and Dennis Ortiz; and his beloved nephew, John Daniel Moreno. He is survived by his son, Christopher Cuellar; his siblings, Daisy (Vernon) Valdez, David (Barbara) Ortiz, Dickie (Norma) Ortiz, Donald (Edie) Ortiz, and Diana (Johnny) Moreno; his sister-in-law, Elaine Anaya Ortiz; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many lifelong friends who will cherish his memory. Danny was an avid sports enthusiast throughout his life. During high school, he excelled in both baseball and basketball, and his passion for baseball continued well into adulthood as he played on several traveling baseball and softball teams. He found great joy in sharing his love and knowledge of sports with his younger siblings and the many nieces and nephews who looked up to him. Music was another one of Danny's greatest passions. He loved listening to all genres of music and enjoyed spending countless hours playing the guitar. Whether through sports or music, Danny had a special way of bringing people together. Family was at the center of Danny's life. He treasured weekends spent with loved ones, whether gathered around a backyard barbecue or cheering on his favorite teams—the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, and Texas Longhorns. One of his greatest joys was attending the sporting events of his nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, proudly supporting them from the stands. His encouragement, sense of humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Danny's legacy of love, laughter, faith, family, and friendship will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
