Daniel C Quesada, surrounded by his family, ran past the finish line of this earthly existence on September 20th to be greeted and crowned in his eternal life. Born February 15, 1937, in Fratt, Texas to Juan and Maria Guadalupe Quesada, he was the second oldest of his family. The family had called many places home in South Texas but settled in San Antonio. Daniel left school early and eventually joined the Air Force and made it a career. While in the Air Force, he not only was serving our country, but was also able to strut his athletic prowess and knowledge. He took part in track, baseball, and softball as part of different installation teams here in the states as well as overseas. After a 20-year military career he started his second career working at Audie Murphy Veterans Administration hospital. There he was encouraged to complete his education and further it by taking classes at St. Mary’s University and St. Phillips College. At the VA, he may have started off in an entry level job with the Cardiology Department, but with his ever-growing knowledge, and tremendous work ethic, he grew professionally into a highly respected and knowledgeable EKG technologist. He retired from the VA only to be requested to return as an independent contractor by the department as all the replacements that came and went could not match his ability and accuracy. After almost 30 years at the VA, he retired for real. Daniel's life did not revolve around work even though he was proud of his careers, his biggest accomplishment was being a father. Daniel married Dolores Oralia Montez on July 2nd, 1960. Dolores has gone by many names: Dodo, Lola, mom. However, Dee is what everyone can agree upon. Together they were collectively known as Dandy (Dan + Dee). Any marriage can be a roller coaster, together they did ride the ups and downs like 2 kids at an amusement park. Whether it was the Tunnel of Love or the Little Shop of Horrors, they persevered together for 64 years. It could be said their favorite past-time may have been to fully annoy each other. Their children became so accustomed to the exasperations of "OH LOLA" and "YOUR FATHER!" that they all have learned the art of patience for their spouses. As adults, we continued to learn from Dan and Dee. They provided plenty of examples of what to say and do, as well as what NOT to say or do. Outside of the stubborn bickering and nit picking, they did remain together and with these golden years, really discovered a deeper appreciation and love for each other. Daniel's other loves influenced all his children one way or another. Sports was a huge interest and skill he shared with each of them whether or not fully appreciated. Baseball, softball, football and even tennis and volleyball. Whether taking part in them, discussing them, or just watching them. He supported his children's foray into sports by coaching and umpiring for the local youth sports association. He often would go out to other organizations and provide officiating for their games when available. Daniel's sense of humor, jovial personality, ability to hold a conversation, charisma and charm rendered strangers to friend status quickly. No matter where he would be, he'd make a new friend if not a handful. Daniel's greatest legacy would be his tight knit family. Beyond his children, his love runs deep and flows to his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and recently great-great grandchildren. Every one of these individuals had a special relationship with their Papa Dan. He had so much joy when he was with them and even more joy if with more than just one. He beamed so proudly and happily showing off his grandchildren. Papa Dan was an immensely proud grandfather in every sense. Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, infant grandson Rocky, nephew Rudy, and niece Diana. He is survived by his brothers Rudy (Gloria), Robert, Ramiro, Raymond (Esther), Richard (Jenice), sisters Gloria and Gracie plus numerous nieces and nephews. His wife of 64 years, Dolores, children Sandra (Mark), Debra (Jim Vince), John Daniel (Jeanette), Elizabeth (Robert) and Darrel. Grandchildren Charis (John), Jillian (Eric), Christopher (Krystal), Michelle, Sabrina, Thaddeus (Shannon), Alexandra, Rebekah, Connie and Shjan. Great grandchildren Abigail (Cameron), Katelynn, Katherine, Loren, Madison, Freya, Liam, Ruby, and Luther. Great-Great Grandchild Cameron. In addition to the biological family there are the many extended "children" whom Daniel loved as his own. Including Jason Delgado (Mitzi, Jaxon, Mahleah). Promoted to a full-blooded family member is Eric Parker (Jillian), who voluntarily took on the responsibility of caring for Papa Dan during his final years. Daniel would call Eric his best friend. Eric was with his Papa Dan the moment he passed. The family wishes to express its immense gratitude for Freedom Hospice and the administrators and staff of The Brooks of Cibolo. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations to the City of Schertz Animal Shelter and or the Buffalo Valley Youth Association (B.V.Y.A) Baseball/Softball programs.
