With great sadness we announce the passing of our own “Renaissance Man,” David Bliss, who left us on January 18, 2024, after a four-year battle with cancer. Dave was born on May 16, 1971, in Nevada, Iowa to Donald Bliss and Susan Hicks. Dave graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Marketing. Dave went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from Carnegie Melon University and a degree in Archeology from the University of Leicester. Dave spent his career working as a consultant for Deloitte and most recently at KPMG Consulting. Dave married his college sweetheart, Leigh Michelle Bridges, in 1997 and they were blessed with twin boys Jonathan and Kurt Bliss. Michelle never left Dave’s side and was his partner in all ways, through life and through his cancer battle. Dave had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and was always working on various projects. He loved to travel, cook, and was a master in the garden, growing large quantities of fruits and vegetables, which he loved sharing with his neighbors. Dave even took up quilting during the time of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Dave’s sons were the light of his life, and he was a wonderful father to them, always offering them advice on the many subjects in which he was an expert. He was immensely proud of them. Dave wrote beautiful letters to his family in the weeks before his passing. He wrote, "I had a good run and no regrets. Just know I have peace as it has been a longer fight than any two people deserve." Dave wrote pearls of wisdom to be passed to his future grandchildren, the most impactful being, "Tell them the minute they think they are better than someone else is the minute they become less than everyone else." Dave knew it was his time to depart this world. He is loved greatly, not only by his family but by the hundreds of people who called him “friend,” and will be missed by all who knew him. We will keep his spirit alive in everything we do. David is survived by his wife Leigh Michelle Bliss, his children Jonathan and Kurt Bliss, his parents Donald Bliss and Susan Hicks, his brother Mike Bliss, and many other family members and countless friends from his many walks of life. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3 at 2pm at Spring Creek United Methodist Church in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions to honor Dave be made to The Clemson Rugby Foundation, www.clemsonrugbyfoundation.org. The family is requesting attendants wear clothing you would wear to hang out with Dave. Dave will never be forgotten; may he rest in peace.
